Hi there, could I ask some advice off the members of this forum thread please,
At the moment I have a sky Grundig free view box which I have been watching sky version of FREESAT on but every so often this will freeze and more so in bad whether but rights itself after a few seconds. My intension is to change over to FREESAT. I intend to change my single universal LMB to a quad one and buy a FREESAT box with no PVR facility and connect it up to the single cable that runs to the sky box at present on a standard TV set. (I would have preferred one with PVR facility but the single cable takes a route that will be very difficult to follow with another cable as I believe you need two sat cables going to the box for PVR facility. Then I want to run two cables to another room to connect to a new (not bought yet) Humax PVR300T DVB-T twin tuner 320 GB box which I have a HD ready TV and hope to get a HD picture. I intend to use the original dish which measures 600 mm W x 700 top to bottom and is a black mesh type about 10 years old (inherited). I would like to have a Humax PVR Box in each room but the route of the existing single one would be very difficult to get another cable through as mentioned. Can I ask advice on the following please as this is my first venture into FREESAT.

    1. Should / could I use my old dish or buy new?
    2. Will the reception be good enough not to freeze anymore on FREESAT?
    3. Does it matter what quad LMB I buy as I live in Derby (East Midlands) for reception?
    4. I believe I just swap the LMB. to receive FREESAT without adjusting the dish in any way?
    5. Could anyone give me their opinion on the Humax Box?
    6. Will I get a HD picture on the box I run two cables to?
Any other thoughts as I do want to use FREESAT now!

    Many Thanks!

1/ the reason you get freezing is
    a) your dish is misaligned
    b) your dish is past its best years
    c) the tuner in your grundig is not very good quality
2/ it depends on th freesat tuner quality and quality of dishas pointed out
3/ most LNB manufactures express noise levels as being the the reason for buying one over another. if you are pointing at astra 28.2 any lnb will do as signal level is strong
4/ you already have freesat with your grundig box. buying another box offers exatcly the same results as your grundig receiver
5/ humax is a s good as any. you buy a box dependent on what you want to do with it so for your needs humax will do fine
6/ yes, but the quality will be dependent on the quality of dish, cable and tuner

"basically he could be in a catch 22 situation"
if he goes out to buy a new sat he could be in the same boat because the problem could be in his Grundig Tuner (and vice versa)!
either way explain it to the sales person that 1 may be returned if you need both

sorry, but try a little research. what sat do you wish to point at. if its astra 28.2 you could probably stick up a coat hanger and get it. if someone is pushing zone 1 or zone 2 lnbs on you then just google it. these questions are simply not even in the slighest bit researched and as such the answer is retained
