Hey, I have just finished backingup my collection of DVD videos. However, when i watched a couple to make sure they worked, i got about 2 moments in each movie where the movie freezed for about 1 second and then carried on. Is this a result from compression? Will higher compression result in more freezing instances? Is wuts happening to me common mong other peoples backups? Thanks
what media are you using? Also, that usually means there was a scratch or fingerprint, etc. on the original when you copied it. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]V4 PS2, flip top, SMD, CDLoader Pioneer 105, Memorex 4X DVD-R DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero[/small]
What burner are you using? software/media/hardware & even memory is important. burning dvds is very unstable, certain software just installed will corrupt burning. Experiment is the only answer, find what is right for you. Welcome to the wonderful world of burning!
wejamn, Your "Freezing" is most probably do to an interruption of your systems resources. Working on your PC while burning or having other programs running while burning will cause "Freezing". Keeping hands and toes away from computer keys and using msconfig to shut down unnecessary programs should result in smoother running backups ) "P"
ScubaPete, Ive read alot of your posts in here and I can see that you obviously know your sh*t! so im gonna follow your commands. Also, thanks to the other guys who gave me some feedback your help is much appreciated
Hi wejamin, Just a couple of comments, I notice in your signature you have a PS2 listed in addition to your Denon DVD player. Is that what you are playing your movies with? I have found that my PS2 is very picky. Movies that will play perfectly on a variety of DVD standalones will sometimes do just as you describe. Do they play better in your DVD player? I assumed it was defective media, and changed brands. I did find eventually that new movies didn't have a problem, and that if I cleaned and polished my older movie, the problems decreased. I did go and buy a cheap DVD player off Ebay and that solved that problem. Another thing that I assumed was an error was a freeze that occured about half way through the movie. I never noticed it untill I started looking for quality problems in my backups. I was just seeing the layer break that occurs in DVD-9's When the laser has to jump back to the center of the disc and re-focus on the second layer. Frank
Wejamn, Reading what my Buddy de “Fastman” said, I’m reminded of the fact that there was a problem with PS2 v7 and below to read certain media. Supposedly the later versions fixed the problem with the units tastes toward –R, +R media. And about that quote “I can see that you obviously know your sh*t! so im gonna follow your commands” I can not tell a lie, I truly loves de “Power” sooo, my next “Order” is as follows: wejamn, I command you to go to the fridge and pop open a “cold one” gather some munches of your choice and chill out for a few – An ya better not mess wid a ScubaPete’s command – he, he Nite ya’ll “P” _X_X_X_X_X_[small]The “old man” Pete (ö¿ô) Compaq 8000, Pent 4 CPU 2.84GHz, 1GB RAM. 340GB HD, 7200 (Maxtor 120, Western 200 & 20. 4 Drives, JLMS DVD ROM, HP DVD Writer 200j, Nec 4X DVD RW ND-1300A & AXV CD/DVD-ROM.
