My cousin came to me today with his HP DV6000 saying it hasn't booted up in over a year. I was curious about what was causing his PC to continually boot up to a blue screen, and here is the quarrel.. I formatted the hard drive through the Windows Vista installation CD. When I try to change the Unallocated drive space to a New Partition, I receive an error message saying no drive can be located. So I tried installing Windows XP on the same computer, with the same error message, only this one actually said, "there may be a problem with your SATA." At this point I can already tell the HDD is shot and needs to be replaced, go figure Best Buy was the place that sold it to him used. Now I know the laptop is pretty ancient in terms of specifications: ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00770899 ) Although the manufacture states an 80GB SATA, his computer has a 150GB SATA, which means someone else probably had the same problem as him.. All I need to know is what would be a good replacement HDD for this HP Pavillion DV6000? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks in advance for the response(s,) these Forums are a huge assistance to so many!
Thanks for the references KillerBug, I will definitely check those out first. I'm more knowledgeable with desktops, still learning laptops bit-by-bit. Thanks again!
