I use an old FTA101 box on NTL (Luton signal) in Hertfordshire. Earlier in the week an update was done which clobbered my box. I did a Factory Reset / Delete all Channels / Full Scan All channel information came back. I can watch Free channels OK. However, as soon as I touch a Non Free Channel the box freezes. I know a lot of people with Eurovox / Starview have sorted their problems with a Factory Reset / Full Scan etc. Is there anyone else out there with a FTA101 with similar problems?
I was looking at one the other day with the exact same problem, if you turn emu off it wont lock up. Looks like the changes they are making effect these receivers and not the other's (for now). You wont get it working in your area now unfortunately.
..OK thanks. So what you are saying is if I turn off emu (is that the Keycode setting in the FTA101 menu) it won't lock up but I then won't be able to watch the non free channels anyway because emu is off? It's a shame I've been using this box for around six years. Doesn't seem to be much support for it now. There used to be a yahoo forum but that doesn't get much traffic now.
Well you got your monies worth out of it, yeah when you turn the emu off it doesn't lock up which shows it cant handle the changes made to the encryption. For it to function as a free to air receiver without locking up you will have to turn emu off. In our area a few weeks ago the transponders were isolated from the main set, this is what they did in Leeds area so they can be encrypted N3 away from the rest, after these changes 3 people I know who all had fta101 stopped working, all 3 with the same problem exactly the same as yours.
..right thanks very much HiTeck. I have posted this query on loads of forums on the net - you are first person to tell me what is really going on! I suppose there's no chance that some clever person will create some new software to stop this problem?
What would the best cheap box I could buy to get round this freezing problem? Obviously I don't want to spend a lot of money with Nagra 3 round the corner.
I really wouldn't bother buying another if I was you but if your adamant then try ebay, there are a few on there selling cheap.
I also have fta 101 box and agree that firmware backup is not the best.Anyway heres my query to all the techheads that know about boxes boxes My box went down on the 10th march and done all the factory resets and got channel listing but box freezes up on all channels apart from free to air,However if i flick the on off button on back of box for about 5 or six times the channel will appear and will stay no probs as i watched football today and have all used this method to switch between ,espn sky sports and cartoons for kids, any answers for this on/off method would be great
