Okay, so I dig out my Nero 8 CD which I paid £50 GBP for in Staples a year or two back, I never got much use out of it at the time as it was basically a pain in the arse compared to the demo version of Nero 7. So I install it on my WinXP laptop today and it takes flipping forever, with an eerie quiet pause at the start with no feedback from the installer. Remembering the hassle I got before with the thing not loading up after a lengthy installation I decide to try it on a Windows 2000 machine. Checking if I had Win2K SP4 I proceed with the same eerie non-happening of the installation process only for it to fail 10 minutes later with a request for 'msxml3.dll' which is in the wrong directroy on the CD! Googling this I see other users with the same trouble and am directed from a forum to a dead link on Nero.com - I try another link to update my exe file only to find Nero want £6.99 GBP to send me a CD with which I can correct this problem (they blame it on an "out of date parser" despite me updating the damn parser from the Microsoft website). I remember when, in times gone by, I got this program to run and all the hassle of it timing out after a few months (despite the fact I bought the full price product!) and then having to register the "patents" online for some reason. Does anyone know a way around this? If this is how they treat their paying customers then I don't blame pirates for downloading keygen programs.
Nero is indeed, in a word, rubbish. What process are you trying to achieve, or do you just want the software installed for the sake of it?
I am sorry to hear Nero is Rubbish. I have an unopened full edition of an earlier version (7 Ultra), which I had hoped would solve all my problems. Sadly, I was just informed in another post that 7 sucked. Since you offered to help the previous poster, perhaps you would be willing to advise me, too? I do a lot with video files. I capture video from a variety of sources, I edit the video, and create and burn DVDs from them. I also back up my existing DVDs as ISOs, occasionally replacing a copy. Can you suggest software that would accomplish these things for me? Free would be high priority, but inexpensive would do....
IMGBURN will do all your burning and backing up. Editing with windows movie maker for simple stuff or Zwei-Stein for anything complex. Nero is pants. Granny pants not sexy pants.
