G4 Powerbook DVD back Ups

    I just got this new G4 powerbook with the superdrive and want to create dvd backups. I'm having problems finding a compression tool to compress the files so they fit on one DVD.
    Can anyone help? I know there is Shrink DVD but it is only for PC--do I need Virtual PC?

    If someone can help with the software tools I need (for Mac) I would greatly appreicate it!!!

    Get DVD2oneX! That will take care of the compression issue.

    thank you guys so much. So DVD2One will compress the data. I take it I have to Rip the DVD to my HD first. So now I need software for this. I was toying around with OSex, it this the best program for this?

    I've had better success with DVD Backup 1.3. This way I can retain the menus and all of the extras.

    one more question....can I use the burn software or "finder" built in on the mac(g4 powerbook) to burn the DVD backup? if so, do I have to do anything different for the DVD player to read the disc?

    Buy Toast Titanium. Its the best burning solution for Mac.

    sorry but what do you think of sizzle?is it the same as taost.or do i definatley need taost?
    also i'm getting a external dvdrw from amacom tech for £350 with burning software included.is this not advisible?

    I am in the same boat as this person who wrote this, I am considering buying an external burner for my mac, and I know nothing except for what I have read. I get two points of views with all the info out there. Seems to be a big pain to do this? So I buy the burner, then I can't use iDVD, I need to get other software? Just Toast or more than this? Also, do I buy any blank DVD or should I look for more than just the speed of it? Thank you much!

    idvd will only work with superdrives. idvd is only for authoring your own dvds such like home movies and what not. Toast is basically an application for burning anything to disk such as movie files or music files. I have not tried sizzle so I cant comment on that.

    Snookie is right on. Toast is the best program for this. I highly recommend this program--although it will cost you around $90. the DVD burner that is built in the mac doesnt allow you to burn movie files--this is why you need toast...

    Thanks for the info. Do you think it is worth the money being spent on a burner plus software to backup DVD's? Or would you suggest waiting for the tech. to advance more?

    I think its worth the money. you can use Toast for more than just DVD's. its a nice program for cds etc etc.

    Just to clarify, Sizzle doesn't burn the disc; it authors the DVD, then creates a disc image that can be burned with Toast or OS X's built-in Disc Burner.

    I've got a Superdrive, so I'm not certain if it's possible to use Disc Burner with an external writer.

    Regarding the blank media question, it will depend upon the dvd writer you buy. If it's DVD-RW, you need blank DVD-R discs, and if it's DVD+RW, you need blank DVD+Rs.
