Hi, i'm totally new to this but I've been reading up on modding the DS for the last 2 days.
I want to be able to play backups of my GBA and DS games on my DS, its a regualr blue DS. I'd also like to be able to back-up my own copies of the game if thats easy to do? I don't have a fast connection to DL the roms, on dial up.

So what would be the best set up jsut for playing back up roms on my DS? The emulation sounds cool but i'd imagine it wouldnt run very well since the xbox even has a hard time. Another thing, a rom of Final Fantasy 3 is around 70MB but the carts that say 4 Gb means Gigabit? thats differnt than gigabyte? So if a rom is 70 MB i wont be able to fit about 57 of them on a 4 GB cart?

Sorry if i sound like a dork lol, I'm trying to figure this all out.

Ok after a ton more reading I'm pretty sure i want to go with the M3 Perfect MiniSD. That will allow me to play GBA roms and NDS roms correct?, I don't mind if it sticks out so i dont need to get the M3 perfect lite and be stuck with having to use a Micro SD card which costs twice as much for the capacity.

So the biggest question i have now is, with the M3 Perfect SD mini it will run GBA roms and NDS roms exactly as they would run from the original carts? I read about someone complaining of slowdown, is that true?

    Correct, 4Gb is only 512MB

Obviously not, but don't forget most games are smaller than this (about 30-60MB)

Yes, and with no slowdown (the Supercard which is a competitor/copier to the M3 has slowdown in GBA mode)

It dosn't stick out of the old DS which i think you have (its a regualr blue DS)

With the exception of having to load the game from the M3 menu before play, Yes

Wait, when you said the game was 70 MB, was that 70 MB from the 4 GB or 70 MB from the 512 MB.
Also, don't you need to buy a passkey for this. I'm thinking about buying this and using my sister's old DS. If I buy a DS Lite, it will stick out right but it will still work?
What is the difference between the Perfect and the Pro? The perfect costs like 30-40 dollars extra.

70MB (Megabytes) from the 512MB would equal 560Mb (Megabits) of the 4Gb.

A Passkey2, or better yet a Passcard3 is required for anything in NDS mode, the Passkey will stick out, the Passcard will not.

The Perfect has 32MB of RAM and can therefore play GBA games and has higher homebrew compatibility, the Pro does not have the 32MB of RAM so cannot play and GBA game over 4MB/32Mb (not many) and has low homebrew compatibility.

The M3 Mini SD will stick out of a DS Lite, but fits perfectly in the original DS, the M3 Lite will fit in the DS Lite perfectly.

So how much does the Perfect MiniSD stick out? It's 70 dollars and I need to buy a Passcard. The M3 Lite Micro SD is 88 dollars. Mr_Hanky, what are you using, how much space do you have, do you think it is enough, and how much space and what flash cart is good for like 4 games since I can always replace them on my computer? Sorry for asking so many questions.

The M3 miniSD is the same size as a GBA cartridge so wil stick out the same amount as a GBA game would.

    I have a G6 Lite, M3 Perfect CF w/1GB and GBAMP w/512MB & 30GB

I've found that 512MB is plenty of space, I have about 10 games on my G6 (i use my G6 only for games)

I have about 12 games on the 1GB card in my M3, but the card is also used in my PDA so also has TomTom and a few applications for my PDA installed on it.

The GBAMP is my hacking item and gets the majority of homebrew and hardware hacks done to it, I also copied natrium's laptop hdd hack so I can connect a spare 30GB hard drive I had lying around to it.

For about 4 games you could get any either the G6 lite (fixed memory of 512MB) or the M3 Lite and a microSD card of 512MB, maybe 1GB if you want homebrew/music/videos too.

Are there any WiFi problems when using back-ups?

The majority of games cannot use download play to an unflashed DS, however online play and multicart play are uneffected.

Its where one person owns the game, and everyone else (can go up to about 8 players i think) downloads the multiplayer mode to their DS, it's not usually as good as multicart as there are longer loadingtimes, and generally things are missing, mario kart for example dosn't let anyone who does download play to choose a character.

The game on the M3 needs to be patched to work (this is done behind the scenes when copying a game to the card using the gamemanager software) but when the game is patched it loses it's RSA signiture, this isn't aprobelm for the DS running the game as methods are usedto bypass the check, however any reciving DS in download play still checks the RSA signiture (which is now missing) and therefore refuses to play. The ONLY way rounf this is for the reciving DS to have FlashMe installed as this does not check for an RSA signiture.

Man, you know your stuff. Thanks for all your help. I guess I'll be getting a Onyx DS Lite and the M3 Lite. Where is the cheapest yet reliable site that offers the M3 Lite?
