Hey me and some guys I know are making an MMORPG type game but we have a low budget and it's really just for fun, we need a server to run it on but buying one is too expensive, is there anyplace we can like rent server use or sumthing like that? preferably someone here has experience with and not just a random one off of google (I'd like one I can feel like I trust a bit more)
Well thats a bit of a can of worms. Greetings, I am known as Marlow. I am the project lead and main network admin for ighn.net. Couple of questions for you; 1:how long have you been in develpment of said mmo 2:how many actual connections (ie. dev team, beta testers) would be needed for testing and what proto's for connections and dev would be used. Used to be in dev myself, trust, reliabilty and as allways costs are and can be ongoing issues. Might have an idea or 2 that maybe helpful to you and your friends. Best wishes, Marlow
we've taken a break from it for a while now because we couldn't find any servers and we just went through exams so we may continue soon and for testers we have 30 people right now that will do it and theres 4 of us making the game We are also trying to think up new cool ideas we can incorperate in the game that hasn't been done before so we may not continue it till like summer (we want people to be "wow" when they play ours) and we also want to make it have like a very strong story line because we perfer games that actually have an ultimate goal. (like if theres this huge monster destroying the world players can team up to kill him and after hes dead the story would continue, i'm not sure i described this part of it well though so lol) so yea that's whats going on with it now
Ah yes the joys of exams. Summer is a little ways off and a bit open ended at this point. Keep me in mind when this starts to gear back up and feel free to contact me. Slowly growing our network, several servers arround the U.S. with plans for streamlining our network and its users and going global. Were donation based (with some contracted paying customers for services) so growth is still based on user base wich isnt that big yet and on the look out for saving people from the corprate financial gauge. (while makin a nickle for some expanding) If financing is good enough may even look at possibility of setting up host close ( this assuming your all pretty much in same area by the sounds of things ). In the meantime if there is somthing your all playing that we dont have a server up for, feel free to holler at me on our forums, and if the dev team needs a private chat we do have and can setup more teamspeak servers etc. . Best wishes, Marlow
