Lag: When I play Far Cry the initial level loads take 15-20 minutes to load now. When I do get to play, my game is laggy as hell. It is similar to FPS lag, but only I have all my video settings at Low; I used to be able to play with settings at high with my XFX 6600GT. This problem is exactly the same in Rome Total War. Seems like this problem started in Half Life 2 when I experienced short pauses after saves. In America's Army I now have short pauses when I shoot somebody, and in Brotherss In Arms: Earned in Blood I have similar short pauses when going from walking to shooting. Sound: My sound "scratches" mostly in games. Whether I use the (current) VIA driver or a game's compatibility mode, it still scratches on certain sounds. For instance, the trumpets on the theme song for Brothers in Arms: EIB scratches at points. Out of a games, less sounds are scratchy, with the exception of the Aol Instant Messenger "dings". When you send a reply, or recieve a message, 3 out of 10 times the sound "lags". What I mean by this is that instead of the usual half-second "ding" it will make a 2-8 second "dingggggggg". It is very annoying... Specs: Nvidia XFX 6600GT OEM Asus Motherboard Two Western Digital 120GIG HDDs (WD120BB) Chaintech AV-710 Sound Card 1024MB DDR RAM Summary: I am very certain all these problems are HDD related. You can probably tell too. I have done millions of: -Disk Cleanups -Error Checks -Diskeeper Defragments -Page File Defrags -Anti-Virus Scans -Spybot scans -Adaware scans -Crap Cleaner registry fixes and useless file deletions -Registry Mechanic fixes -Dustbuster fixes -RegClean fixes with no success. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
sounds to me like you got background programs running. try using task manager and shutting off everything you can. (if you don't know what you can safely turn off, go to "pcpitstop.com" run full tests, go to "test details" and it will say what seems to be critical that is running (taken with a grain of salt, of course. i see several progs there that i can safely shut off when playing games, like "ehome", which is a windows MCE file. i don't plan on watching any movies when playing World of Warcraft). i use a prog called "smartclose" (you'll have to google for it) that turns off most non-essential progs with one click. (ok, it kills MOST non-essentials, but leaves a few. it CAN be set to kill the programs you want that are left running. dang spool server.) another thing i had to do was un-install the games, run a smart defrag prog (like diskeeper pro), restart, then reinstall the games. after a time, with any defrag, they seem to get moved around the HD. the final solution (for me), was more memory. with certain background progs unable to be turned off (farking norton), the more memory you gots, the better games run (used to lag up like crazy every time i went to Ironforge. doubled memory, and now i breeze in and out, np.) no-brainer stuff: latest drivers, so on. hope this helps some.
Well, I've done everything you have listed alreeady. I shut off as many programs as I could, and if you read, I have used Diskeeper quite a few times. I don't have norton, and my memory is fine; I have 700MB left when all my backround programs are turned off. You think its a hardware fault?
Well, I found out what's causing my lag at least, Kerio firewall. I uninstalled it and Far Cry still didn't work. When I restarted, Far Cry worked. I installed Kerio again after a few resgistry scans and defrags, Far Cry still worked. When I restarted, the it long loads happen all over again. When I disable Kerio from the system tray, or even whe I close all Kerio processes with task manager, Far Cry still won't work Any ideas? Right now I have Kerio completely uninstalled to play.
I don't use Kerio myself so not too sure, but in Outpost firewall some items are allowed partially. Maybe Kerio has a similair setting that you need to change for Farcry. If not then maybe it's time to find a new firewall. Hope it helps.
Yeah, I've never had these problems with Kerio before, but it seems like it affects Far Cry, Rome Total War, and all other games similarly. I'm very accustomed to it, so I am not going to be switching just because of this. I'll figure it out.
I can say I fixed the sound lag problem now. I never disabled my AC97 sound in my BIOS, so I did that and removed the drivers and now my sound doesn't lag. As for Kerio, I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I have uninstalled it, deleted residue, ran registry scan and defrags, etc, but when I install it again it slows my load times and FPS considerably. Even when I went as far as to disable most protections and even checked the "Allow All" button it doesn't work...
