I've been reading a lot on these forums, but nothing's really working out for me. Here's what's up: 1. I just ordered a pre-modded GameCube from the modchipstore. It has the Viper chip and updated bios, etc. 2. Next I burned Wario Ware Mega Party onto a Memorex 1.4 gig mini-dvd-r, after 4 coasters, nothing works. 3. I checked, "finalize CD", I renamed the file from .gcn to .iso and I used a mini-dvdr. I thought that's all i needed to do. Am I missing something? There seem to be many newbs, like myself, that don't know what we're doing wrong. I'm on a mission to test everything from scratch since I noticed way too many different opinions on laser tweaks, media, etc. Any tips from senior members are very much appreciated. Your help is appreciated, Thanks! I'm burning each mini-dvd-r with the following DVD Burners: 1. TDK DVDRW0404N 2. Pioneer DVDRW 107D
When using memorex BE SURE to use the ones that say on the box: --POCKET-DVD-R-- cuz the mediacode for these are RitekG04 and the "MINI"s are G05 which are non-compatible. I wasted some cash on the minis too!!! =( It could also be that you have to adjust your POT setting (adjusting the resistor of the laser diode)...Because the guys that have premodded your cube may have overlooked this. As for an excellent site to find compatible media, a clean burn-iso tutorial and how to change your POT goto http://modthatcube.pxn-os.com/ (this site is DA BOMB!!!) grtz and well...many regards from Belgium =)
Thanks for the tip. I'm going out there to buy some now. BTW: that website's not working for me. Tells me a "forbidden" error message. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress. Maybe this thread will help new guys get the hang of things. By the way, these are the ones I'm currently using (5 coasters) while burning the Wario Ware game on it.
yes, the site is down... =) hope they haven't taken it off!!! And if you're doubting the pack, ask a sellsman to check it's mediacode. RitekG04. There are plenty other compatible mediacodes, but I don't know them by heart! =) http://modthatcube.ngcdev.com/content/media.htm is working well...
Ok folks... went out on a shopping trip and bought 4 different kind of mini dvd-r media. Here they are: 1. Maxell 2. TDK 3. Fujifilm 4. Office Depot Generic Brand I spent a total of about $65 for them and I'm about to burn the Wario Ware iso onto each one to test them. I'll keep ya posted.
Try to run the game on an emulator before burning it. Make sure it works. Or download some thing like RE4 that you are sure worked for someone else... But I think it´s media problem.
Ok... I burned the following games onto all the media mentioned before and... NOTHING! Nothing works. I've used both burners and all differents types of media mentioned above and it just isn't working. Very frustrating. grmbl - The media you mentioned doesn't exist here in the USA. I've looked and have only found that exact same package on German websites. Any suggestions as to what media to use? Please be specific. Thank you
UPDATE: Everything works now! The problem... you ask? Cobra Bios... It wasn't even installed. I flashed my modded GC with Cobra Bios v1.2 and everything works fine now. The media? Office Depot mini dvd-r and the memorex mini's with the picture above. I burned 3 games with the burners above and nero and everything works fine. No laser twear required at all!
Office Depot mini-DVD-Rs worked? Excellent, thanks. But I have a question about Memorexes - I've been using Memorexes for a few months and they always worked perfectly with NO DREs whatsoever, until I got two new packs. These new packs - with the exact same box images, the one who posted - have slimmer and slightly wider cases, and the DVDs inside are of lesser quality. So my question is basically, about the ones you ordered... are the cases square? I mean, PERFECTLY square? And also, if you remove the front little insert, are they clear, or is there a blue backing that is not possible to remove? The ones that worked for me were perfectly square or clear, but the new ones that are giving me DREs on some games are not square and have the blue backing. Problem is, the new ones with DREs are rendering a few games with extensive streaming of media (namely Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and Eternal Darkness) unplayable, and there's a clear difference in how quickly and easily the other three games I burned from the new 5-pack load.
Not only do the Office Deopt Mini's work, but they come in a 10-pack and are cheaper than the memorex. =) To answer your question. The memorex 5 pack that I pictured above is fully functional. When I open the package the plastic casing of the mini's is perfectly square. All parts of the case are removable. The "holding" part of the mini-dvd is clear with a purple sheet behind the DVD reading... "memorex - Is it live or is it Memorex?" Any more questions?
Ah, no, you answered it.... but that sounds like something different from both of what I've seen. So the purple backing with "Is it live... or is it Memorex?" is there? But the cases are still square? (This is including the hinge on the left side...) Odd. Anyways, the ones with the backing that I got (not square) didn't work for me. So I should probably not try out the Office Depot ones either, since my GCN may not be able to read those (and I don't want to tweak the laser)... thanks.
