I have done some listening tests with my laptop, which has the basic ac97. Even with my nifty Shure headphones, it doesn't seeem that any material over 13khz would have much of an impact. Yet the diffence among 128khz cbr mp3, 256~khz vbr is very clear. Why? I am also looking for some links discussing "common sense" audio quality perception.
Do you mean 128 Kbps (Kilo-Bits Per Secound) CBR vs. 256 Kbps VBR? Check-out this well written artical: http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/encoding.ars Its a little dated but its still very accurate. Ced
Thanks for the link, it is exactly want I was looking for. Yes, by the way, I did mean 128kbs CBR versus 256 VBR. Considering the quality audio components on my cheapo laptop, one would not think that there would be a very notable difference, but there definetly is very big difference. Thanks again.
