Is it possible that older DVD players don't support DVD-R nor DVD+R? After doing a little research, I believe that commercial DVD's are burnt on DVD-5 or DVD-10 discs, any idea where to get those? Are single sided, 9.4GB dvd's even available to the public? Then again I may just be using the wrong techniques for backing everything up. Yes , it's possible !! But to check http://wwww.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers DVD-9 is dual layer & no they're not available to the general public (yet).Dual Layer writers will be out soon (ish). Sounds about right to me , I use DVD2One in place of where you use DVD Shrink...but otherwise thats the same method I nearly always use ;-)
Hi Hello Wrld, Commercial DVDs are not burned but pressed or molded using a mastering disc. The DVD-5 or DVD-10 discs are just single layer/single side and single layer double side discs. Single sided double layer blank media is not available yet, nor are the burners. Soon we hope! For checking player compatibility, try here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php Or just do a search for the player. You shouldn't have to use Decrypter first when using DVD Shrink as it can decrypt as well as compress. On rare occasions you may need to use Decrypter if Shrink is having difficulties with the encryption. Your movie should be compressed to 4.36 GB or about 4464 MB to fit on a blank DVD-5. Are you getting successful burns and it just won't play in your player? Will the copy play in your computer? Have you tried different brands of media? Cheers, Frank
