This is the only place where I'm certain that I'll get help. So here it goes. I'm thinking of getting my own computer 'cause my dad is litteraly hogging the computer and won't even let me on for my homework because of his "precious" PC game. It just pisses me off and so, I want to get my own computer. But here's the problem, I ain't got much money (yeah, I'm cheap, I know). So I was thinking, instead of also buying a monitor, can I just plug a computer to the tv and use the tv as a monitor? I hope I'm clear. I'm not so smart when it comes to computers so please help me. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hey guy! I can't answer your question but be a little patient; the site seems really slow today!

    Yes and No !!!

Some TV`s are TV`s / Monitors so it is possible to do so.

    Most are just TV`s

What kind/brand/model TV do you have ?

So if you have the right model ...YES !!

    If not then .....NO !!

Well, I can't help you very much. I know that it's a Sanyo and that it's like a couple years old but apart from that, I don't know very much. Sorry.

My guest is that it's not that kind of TV. Do you know how much a TV/monitor would cost?

Not to mention that generally Monitor-type TVs still don't have the video quality of most monitors. You'd be better off getting yourself a monitor.

Better yet, convince your dad that he needs to upgrade and take the leftovers back. ;)

why not just get a standard LCD monitor

and an LCD TV tuner box for about £30. that would cost you a lot less than buying the 2 in 1 monitor/tv

Using your TV as a monitor is possible, but when you come to reading small text, the resolution of your TV may not be enough to show the text sharply!

17" CRTs are really cheap & would be a lot better than using your TV.
