    My xbox was fine yesterday, but when I picked it up and moved it, I turned it on and got the 05 error. I looked it up and it said HD is locked. I thought some wires might have came loose, but I was inside and tightened everything up, and it didn't help. Other forums are saying you have to unlock HD in the evox system menu, but when I turn the box on, I get as far as the XBOX logo. Is it possible my HD is fried?

    Download evoX and edit this part of the evox.ini file:

    Section "Root"
    {
    Item "Launch DVD",ID_Launch_DVD
    Item "MS Dashboard",ID_MS_Dash
    Item "Reboot",ID_Quick_Reboot
    # Item "Power Cycle",ID_Full_Reboot
    Item "Power Off",ID_Power_Off
    # Item "Lock Harddisk",@210
    # Item "Unlock Harddisk",@211

    Take out those "#" signs next to the unlock harddisk and lock harddisk. Then save and create a .iso file with a program called xISO (also found in the usuall places). Then just burn the .iso as a cd image to a CD-RW, or you might have to use a dvd-r.
    After all that, you'll boot with the evoX boot disk in, and should load evoX, now with an option to lock/unlock the hard drive. :D

    Hi

    Ok to start with
    error 5 = kernel hdd NOT locked (retail bios requires the hdd to be locked)

    It sounds like "if you have a mod chip & large hdd" that the chip is NOT booting and that the M$ onvboard bios is attempting to boot up but is failing to pass the hdd check due to an unlocked hdd.

    Regards
