Hey, just to give you all a quick rundown, i successfully/easily modded my 1.0 xbox and upgraded to an 80gb drive. I have two of these drives so i did a duplicate on that drive (for when my friend got an xbox). He gets an xbox...and it's 1.2 or 1.3...with the Slim Seagate Drive. I tried putting my modded drive straight into his box and it gave me an error. so i took my drive out and plugged it back into my box...worked fine. boot up with his drive, his works fine...so i figured maybe it's a difference in eeproms or something. So then i spent about 4 days trying to figure out how to unlock this freaking drive! Finally i get this drive unlocked.

(To unlock the 10gb ST310014ACE Slim White Drive you have to unplug the power to the dvd drive in the xbox...(leave the power and ide cable plugged into the xbox drive). Turn on the xbox, when you see error 12 then turn on your computer ready to boot to which ever dos unlocking utilities disc you have...i used ndure disc with xboxhdm1.9. DON"T BOOT COMPLETELY YET...when you see the splash screen for your mobo hit the "Pause" button on your keyboard (Right after your keyboard registers). this pauses the boot. Then unplug the IDE Drive from the xbox hard drive and HOT SWAP into the primary ide drive on the PC. Then hit any key (other than pause) on the keyboard to continue booting. After the System boots into the xboxhdm disc then choose option 4 (for dos utilities). After that loads up type "unlockx" then choose 1 (for your HDD), it will then ask for a password. "Seagate " (that's 25 spaces). Hit enter then "U" to unlock the drive. If that fails then do that again and try "Seagate" as the password with NO spaces. after it says "UNLOCKED" then type "atapwd" a blue screen should pop up with your drive, hit enter and choose the main option. then choose "disable drive" it will then ask for a password type "Seagate " (fill that bar with spaces after you type Seagate). That is the Master Password. It should say successful. NOW your drive is unlocked!!! YAY!!! This worked for me PERFECTLY! every time i do this. then you can lock it again with "UnlockX" choose the password you want to use like "XBOXSCENE" and then it's locked again!

The problem i'm right now is I can't mod the drive! Every time I try I recieve error 6 when i load into the dash...or try. I even tried to restore the C from backup and still nothing! please help! I'd rather not go pay some guy here 40 bux to fix this for me. The dash is 1.00.5101.01 and bios i think is 1.00.4920.01

If there is anyway i can get this fixed that'd be awesome!
I tried to extract the Eeprom from this but i obviously have no idea how. I was able to do it succesfully on my 1.0 box...which saved my but..but i don't have it for this drive.
I don't know where to go from here, but please someone help me. thank you

you cannot softmod a harddrive on your xbox and put that harddrive in another xbox........ simply because each xbox has a different eeprom and you need to lock the harddrive to the xbox's own eeprom. if it is locked to the wrong eeprom, you get error 6 (error 5 means unlocked hdd)

it appears you unlocked your friends harddrive(really not a good idea!!!) WITHOUT backing up the eeprom.bin file from his xbox!!!! to get your friends xbox to work again, you must lock his or any drive that you want to put into that xbox using that xbox's eeprom.
    1) you can get it to lock (and/or get the eeprom.bin file backed up) by putting in a modchip and boot from there (this will bypass all the ms bios checks, amongst error 5 and 6).
2)or you can build the eeprom reader and read the eeprom.bin straight of his motherboard. since you unlocked his harddrive there are no other options for you anymore. never unlock a harddrive without a backup of the eeprom.bin file.

btw. on a stock xbox the eeprom.bin isn't on the harddrive, you have to run a softmod installer or configmagic to get it backed up to the harddrive. but since you unlocked your friends harddrive and have rebuild it with your softmod, all his files (and maybe his eeprom from a previous softmod if there was any) are surely gone. so either get a modchip or build the eeprom reader. good luck, both aren't easy to do...

I followed the same steps to his xbox that i used on mine (other than the unlocking of course)...for my xbox i had to unlock the drive, then run the ndure command from the xboxhdm/ndure mix. Which gave me the option to backup my C: drive...so i did, then I installed the ndure, then relocked it again. Put the drive back in my box, then voila...it worked. When i did that to my friends box it didn't work. I managed to pull a LONG code from that drive that is supposedly the drives password, would that work if i re-locked it using that code? I would rather not go do the mod chip or eeprom reader myself...there is a guy out here that charges 40 bux to do it all. well, thank you for your help on that there...i did only do the same steps to his box as i did mine.
