I have a 600MB Dat file. When I convert it in ‘VirtualDub’ using XviD compression, I get a 1.3GB output avi file. I Can’t use ‘Direct Straem Copy’ for viedeo, because that damn file just does not allow it. So I used ‘Fast Recompress’.. then in Compression’> XviD configuration- I used ‘Single Pass’ How can I get a good quality AVI file that is less than 600MB ? Pls help…
For mpg sources VDub doesn't allow directstreaming for video or audio, so unless you selected an audio compressor, you have PCM which could explain the size. A 600MB dat (assuming VCD source) means 60mins so ~600MB's worth of PCM. So even without the audio, you have 725MB's of video. Single pass fixed quant? Even at Q2 I would have thought you would end up with something smaller than that. If you care about quality and filesize, I would suggest doing a 2 pass encode.
Thank you for the reply. I'm really new to VirtualDub..even those basic things I learnt from this forum. What are the exact settings & steps I should follow in-order to get a decent copy with a relatively small sized avi file? Can you pls help ? Thanx
