getting songs onto ipod

Hello all. Need some help. I am trying to get some songs into my daughters ipod nano. I have tried using MusicMatch and it didnt work, sort of. It put the songs on there, I can see them when the thing i plugged into the computer but they will not show up on the ipod? So I was going to try Windows media Player. Is this a lost cause? Am I doing something wrong, missing a step? lease help, I have many hours invested in this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
