Hello everyone, I have a 1.0 Xbox (or so I think), and I am going to attempt a softmod with the Splinter Cell exploit. Then I am going to use my own "usb stick" and turn it into an Action Replay compatible "memory card." Then I load the saves on it and copy it to the Xbox HDD. Then I run the game and load the installer through the Linux profile? I have a few questions just to make sure I am going to do it right. 1. How many saves should there be if I am going to use SID 5.01? 2. I decided to use SID 5.01 instead of SID 4.0, should I use SID or something else entirely. 3. What do I back up when I get to the installer? 4. Should I install EvolutionX or UnleashX? I want to be able to play copied ... oops, I mean "backed up" games and I want to be able to burn it to the Xbox HDD and not need the disc. 5. Is there a way to upgrade the HDD without opening the Xbox, i.e. a USB HDD? I was told you can , but it has to be formatted to FAT32 first? 6. Last but not least, how can I backup the HDD and transfer a copy to my computer in case everything goes to hell? Sorry for the length of my thread, but I just want to make sure I don't destroy my Xbox. I appreciate any help you guys could provide. -Pokaslop
I hate to do it, but: BUMP. It has been well over an hour, and I know chuckhead's guide I right below my post, but I wanted an 1 on 1 type thing addressing my specific questions. Also, chuckhead, I dont know you but I am smart enough to know your like a mod god, so if you see this, I would appreciate it if you answered my questions.
Come on guys. I am an Xbox modding newb and I came to you guys to help me. It has been close to 10 hours now, and yet no responses. Sorry to bother you all, I'll just take my questions to another, non joker, forum.
ad 1. as many as you like, you actually only need the sid installer (either 5 or 4). i always use sid 4 since with sid 5 i sometimes get a black screen with some xbox versions after booting into the softmod installer. you can try both, if it works, it works. and off course the proper gamesave (splinter cell game needs the spinter cell save game!) ad 2. Sid works best for me and is easy, only used that. nothing else. ad 3. always backup your eeprom.bin file immediately to your computer or wherever, have a save backup. you will need it if you unlock your drive or your drive gets ruined. The other stuff i never backup to my computer, complete waste of time. during the softmod install you have to make a backup of the msdash to your xbox harddrive, that is mandatory. but i never bother with backing up the complete c and e drive to my harddrive. choice is yours. ad 4. choose one (unleashx is suggested), but after install i always put avalaunch there. i always overwrite the evox/unleash dashboard with avalauch, since avalaunch looks great. but for playing games, it doesn't matter which dash you have. play around with it, put several dashboards in the apps folder and see what looks best. choose that one. i always use avaluanch ad 5. xbox uses the fatx partition, so you need to format everything to fatx. so no, usb harddrive is useless since the fatx partition is limited in size. just use ftp or a nas hdd. fat 32 is not recognized by the xbox system ad 6. use ftp to copy over content.
Are you serious ?. I didn't hear my beeper go off when you were posting. There are actually some very knowledgable folks around these forums, for all sorts of consoles, but after you posted the above, (never mind all the bumping within a 24 hour period), you'll be lucky if anyone else wants to help you. Forums don't work that way, we're not all on alert each time someone posts (even though a lot of us spend unhealthy amounts of time here).. p.s. Forum Rules in my signature
It's not even that folks are knowledgeable, folks have common sense. If you find a guide that tells you how to do what you want to do, why would you ask again? Then sitting in front of the computer for 10 hours waiting for a reply, are you kidding? You could have probable attempted you HD mod in half that amount of time, maybe encounter an impass, then come to the forums with a REAL problem. And for the record, check the post dates on the forums. Some of the people you want at your feet at the snap of a finger haven't posted in nearly 4 years! Xbox is also obsolete, as every owns a 360 pretty much, thus the forum discussion is at a slower rate for an old gaming system. Like I said before, folks here have common sense, not everyone apparently.
