I use Sony DVD+R all the time ....I use Clonedvd2 or dvdshrink with anydvd....and I just tried using imgburn...and once I put in the DVD-R...I get an error saying the format is not valid....but I pop in a dvd+r disc and it burns......I have on my laptop disc identifier..and when I put the dvd-r in the rom ..it sees it is a Sony Corp dvd-r...My laptop has a dvd+-r/rw NEC Brand Drive.. I am using Nero 6....I see some people upgrade and it works....How do I upgrade what I need for free....I have the full version of 6 and see to upgrade it costs more money....UGGGHHHH !!!
if your going to use the DVD dash R format use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden nero 6.6.0.18 should work fine for everything without upgrading
Tried IMGBURN...and got the same thing....I thought Sony were good...they rate to the TY's right....TY use to make the Sony ... I used to use Verbatim and made to many coasters...I use only Sony dvd+r and made maybe 3 coasters out of 600 do to it not playing in low end dvd players....I just heard that dvd-r are better for playing on any dvd player....that is reason for the switch..
This title is currently being discussed. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/627235 Slow down burn speed. 8x max.
thats true most the time BUT booktyping the DVD+R to DVD-ROM should yeild you the same results so give that a try
I did slow down burn speed with the IMGBURN...down to 1x....and as soon as I hit the start button...it shows it starting then kicks out an error of incompatible disc....
If unfamiliar with booktyping here's basic guide utilizing ImgBurn. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_set_booktype_for_blank_dvd_r_w__media_page_2.cfm Edit: Is this just with this particular title, or anytime you're trying to burn? You might want to start by making sure your burner drive is nice and clean. Also, run Dvd Identifier to get the info on the blank media you're currently using.
That may be why I have so few coasters.... I think it is setup as booktypeing already ...I dont know how to check ...or even how to do it if its not....again I use dvdshrink,clonedvd2,imgburn with nero 6. and anydvd running
Refer to the guide in my previous post for booktype settings. When you load your blank disc in ImgBurn it should have a little log screen on the right side, format and/or booktype should be listed there.
I just looked at it on imgburn and I received a ..when I clicked Change for: NEC DVD+R Current Setting :Unknown (failed) Reason: invalid operation command
I dont have a booktype function on my Nero...I have ..under options.. Justlink Enabled ....Checked DVD High Compatibility mode atleast 1 Gb will be writtten)..Checked Write Extended lead-out to Double-Layer disc ...Unchecked
I seen a thread about 16X speed discss...so I put in another speed...I dont know the speed of the disc ..but I KNOW THE DISC IS ABOUT 4 YRS OLD.. so Im sure the speed is pretty low....anyway..I poped that disc in at the burning stage of dvdshrink and it burned at 2 speed and burned perfect....so I think you are right..need new dvd burner,,, or lower speed disc...the dvd+r I have no troubles at any speed disc....Th bad news is this is my laptop and is a few years old...I was wanting a newer laptop..so I guess Bestbuy here I come...Thanks for your help.....
I'm pretty sure most Sony drives booktype, NECs do not you will need nero express to booktype and yes an external burner is a good option if you don't realkly need a new laptop
I have read through the post and didn't find the answer to my question with the Gone Baby Gone DVD. I saw where people had the same problem as me...won't play on my computer. How did you get so that it would play on the computer. When I put the DVD in the player it opens a window with the audio and video files showing but no files in the folders. How do I get so I can view the DVD and the also burn it?
