Ok, im sure its been asked before but i didnt find much to help me searching the forums.

but, basicly i have to encode my dvd, with divx and to keep the quality, i need to know a decent bitrate for the encoding.

what would you guys reccomend? the movie is about 1 hour and 40 mins

Any help would be helpfull to me

If i am missing any needed info please just ask me and i will let you know.

Also, before when i did max bitrate.. the movie was going really slow, frame by frame.

Also, the files are 2x 750MB, so im using All Video Joiner, to join them together, but i select compress with Divx codec, and the output file ends up being 15GB? and the quality for 15GB Sucks!

Now im trying a bitrate of 2500Kbps

For that size you could use the original DVD res. I'd suggest XviD over DivX for compression though and encode anamorphicly. Assuming that is that the DVD is 16:9 anamorphic.

The bitrate is determined by the length and size. You already know both so you don't have a choice in bitrate. I could calculate it, however I don't know what audio, container, etc. you are using.

    Try a bitrate calculator.

Hey, thanks for your post, you helped a great deal, with you help and a few tuts on here i managed to do my dvd, quality on my dvd player was unreal :)

I used AVI MPEG RM WMV Joiner, to Join them
Then avi2dvd to creat a dvd iso
And dvd decrypter to burn the iso... alot more effective then using nero for me.

One thing, i noticed the sound was good quality, but it was unstable, like the music was loud but the voices and speach wasnt so loud... maybe i need to get set up with a good audio setting?
