Hi, my name is Jake and I recently purchased a Cyber Home DVR-1600 DVD Recorder from a nearby Menards........and when i started reading the box it said that I could copy VHS to DVD, etc. Well, I thought that was pretty cool; so right away I went home and hooked it up; because we had bought this recorder to backup our home movies and commercial VHS tapes. So when I first tried to copy the VHS of Happy Gilmore, it said the signal was copy protected. So then, I decided to see if I could work around this protection, and eventually what i did was hit record on my DVD Recorder, leave it for a few seconds on the blue screen of my VCR, then pushed play on the VCR; and I was able to copy the whole movie to DVD. But now, here's where my problem comes in; now that I had Happy Gilmore, I thought I'd be able to do the same thing w/ all my other Macrovision protected tapes........but when I tried to do the same method w/ the VHS tape Mrs. Doubtfire, my DVD Recorder would recognize the Macro signal within 30 sec. to a minute of the video starting; so then I went on the internet and found that you can get video stabilizers which completely rid the Macro on all VHS. So I went around finding some ranging from 20.00 to about 2000.00 dollars!!! But since I'm not prone to ordering things off the internet; I was wondering if they sell these at Best Buy or Circuit City; or is there just another way to circumvent the Macro w/o a stabilizer???? Also, which would be the most suitable for my type of recorder and the task i'm doing??? P.S. Thank you, to anybody that has some positive input on this subject!
I had the same problem but to get rid of the thing that pops up and says that the source is copy protected you can go to the setup screen and press 1,1,8,8 on the remote it doesn't get rid of the macrovision but it no longer brings up the copy protected warning and you can copy from macrovision protected VHS. I also searched for video stabilizers but the only one that claims to work with cyberhome is the dimax dvd red pro.. but i wonder if now ANY will work after entering the 1,1,8,8 hack.
