Don't know how many people have this or know about this or whether this is old news but I think it's worth a mention. Goolge have created a program where you can go anywhere in the world and see a satellite picture of that place. I think the programs quite neat and interesting. Although smaller places aren't that heavily featured and it's mainly America which it focuses on I hope it will get better with each update. You can download it from here http://www.download.com/Google-Earth/3000-2054_4-10411075.html?tag=lst-0-1 (Google Earth Plus needs a licence key which means I think you have to pay for one) or from here http://earth.google.com/downloads.html I chose download.com which has the free version. P.S. It helps to have an ADSL connection.
google also has a satelite that you can zoom in anywhere in the world. maps.google.com. click the satelite button to change from maps to satelite.
one of my students turned me on to it last semester, google sure is more than a search engine these days
well I'm kind of a teacher. not a history or math professor or anything, I just teach audio production at a local college in LA. I don't really consider it teaching, because I get to play with computers and audio gear all day which is pretty much my dream job. If only it paid better...
Just tried the one djscoop recomended. Those pics must be pretty new. I checked my grandmothers house and her new bright-orange roof showed up, and it's less than a year old. Big Brother........... Still pretty cool, makes me wanna spell something obscene on the main road and see how long it takes to show up.
I think it's only updated in certain regions. There are some houses behind my neighberhood that were built in 2001 and aren't there at all on the satellitle map.
Yeah at the moment it's only major cities and towns which have the most detail put into them. I'm still very happy with the program as it is very useful. I especially like it how you can include 3D buildings in places like New York and go to ground level and snoop around. Imagine what they can do in years to come with this type of development.
OMG google earth is amazing, i found the building i work in. imagine what aliens would do with this info and a broadband wireless link
naw, not yet. i just had this vision of a sequel to Independence Day, where the aliens were using Google Earth (via an AOL connection, wireless of course!) to pick out targets, and Will Smith et al using ZoneAlarm to block the attack i should get out more :O
lmao, naw, i was just in a real good mood (ok, silly mood!). i am notorious (you've probably noticed in other posts) for babbling on like an idiot or more likely going off topic at the drop of a hat, but as it's safety valve i can get away with it for a change lol
