Well first off I'm not sure if I'm allowed to ask this but i wanted to know if i can make a backup of a backup? Reason being, i backed up my dvd let my friend borrow it, and i lost the original. I used dvd x copy xpress to back it up. Secondly, this question has been troubling me for a while. I read the do's and don'ts on the dvd case, and it says that you shouldn't put a label. I wanted to make a label and put it on my dvds instead of having it as tacky writing with a marker. What will this do? and does anyone put a sticker labe from a label maker on a dvd?

Labels are very bad , but do as you will (you can find more info on this by search)

You can do a copy of a back up yes , just that DVDXcopy is not the best to do it with - by any means !!

use DVD Decrypter to backup your backup copies without any other software needed.

    This is a all-in-one software.
It rips to your HD and then copy back to your DVDR

Use dvd decrypter to copy dvd and I use labels on all my dvd's with no problems. I just use either neato, avery, or stomp labels and Ez cd/dvd creator's laber creator to make my labels. You can download the original label pictures from here --> http://www.cdcovers.cc/covers.php
    or scan it yourself.

Thanx for all the replies, But I'm still confused about the labeling stuff. I hear its bad then I hear that some have no problems. What kind kind of labels do I use? Glossy? What kind of kit should I use, cuz I have read that they have to be centered. I just want my dvd's to look a little more professional than just a marker. But I'm also afraid that they might not work anymore. I'm using Philips DVD+R media, would that be a problem? Thanx for all the help everyone

Try to avoid using the glossy ones cause they ARE thick. I use the matte ones. They look drab but they are as thin as they can get. I have no problems with the DVDs I backed up._X_X_X_X_X_[small]Just another lonely Hawaiian with:

The best thing to do is to buy either the silver reflective top DVD-R (Riteks) or the printable top DVD R and buy a thermal printer for around £70 and just printon to the disc. The thing with Labels is that sometimes after repeated use, the chemicals can errode the disc. With the heat the laser gives off, some melting as such can occur.

    This is not proven

I have tried Fellowes but CD Stomper Pro seems to be the more user friendly.

I have the cd stomper kit. After printing your cd, you peal it off and put it on the cd appicator upside down, then put your cd on and press it down. It centers it perfectly on the cd.
As far as what kind of label (gloss, matte, clear) it's up to you. I use all. Gloss and clear cost more, so I only use them for certain dvd's (lord of the rings, spiderman, starwars) but the matte I use most (episodes, I spy,). Clear looks pretty cool.

You wont get problems with labels on DVD's in you are using printable discs, as long as you align te label correctly.

I wonder if some people who have had problems with labels, if it could be the type of labels that you are using??? I use Fellowes CD Stomper Pro with Fellowes Neato Glossy Photo Quality DVD/CD Labels. I Know I have watched some movies more the 15 time an never have had any bad results.. But I guess everyone to his own. If it doesn't seem to work for you then don't do it. But if it works fine then go for it.

well i have not tried using printable discs and sticky labels combined..so i cant comment mate, but i might try it arned printable discs more pricey ? and why would lables be problem free on a printable disc anyaway ?

thing is LABRAT it might work on your machines but u might lend or sell disx 2 someone and it may not work so mabey its not worth bothering at all ?

Everyone seems to have differing opinions so if those that do want to do it...DO IT

Just dont come crying to those of us that dont add labels - lol

herbsman, we have 2 keep posting this thread coz until i read about this i could not my copies to play on a stand alone dvd player, i removed the labels and now all is fine, so you see mate, lots of people will make that same mistake of placing labels on dvdr's esspecially if they r new to dvd burning but have been using cdr/w for a while.

I dont see why ppl want to add labels anyway unless they're are selling back up's (so as to look better for other people)

There you go , I'm bound to get enough people bust my balls about that comment ! LOL

[P.S. I learnt my lesson with labels from CD-R labelling on my behalf - nuff said...peace out]!!

well i like making labels, just so they look the part, i have 3 kids and they aint too fussy how they handle dvd's this way, it dont matter if they get scratched,
also labels can protect silver disks,
sadly they dont fair well with a lot of stand alone players, im thinking of getting an epson 950 printer to print discs but its £350
and u have to buy printable dvdr's.

Id love to bust your balls over that one Herbsman, but unfortunately i do tend to agree with you. Im all for putting relpica covers onto the DVD Case, but generally those who want to print labels, usually want it for the wrong reasons.
