    well, ths problem is like a software and a hardwae problem. see, my notebook (Compaq Presario R4000) has over 1000+ of my cd's and mp3's n iTunes. and sadly, it doesnt have a dvd burner, but my desktop pc does, is there any easy way of getting all my mp3's onto my itunes on my desktop, or on my c anyway. Someone told me to try transfering the files over an ethernet cabe, can someone explain how that works? OTHER INFO. i do have a wireless router in my home, my laptop has a ort that i think is an ethernet but not sure, those wires that go from the modm to the routers do fit in it.

    any help is apprecited, thanks in advance.

    does your laptop access the internet via the wireless router?

    if so you first of all need to make sure that both computers have the same computer name.
    to do this right click my computer and go to properties, click on the computer name tab and select change, in the window that comes up set your workgroup name to something like HOME and do the same on the other computer,

    once thats done right click on the folder that contains all your music on the laptop and go to properties. click on the sharing tab then click where it says "click here if you understand the risk etc etc" (or something like that) then check the box that says "share this folder on the network" and also check the box that says "allow network users to change my files"

    once youve done that, go to your desktop and go to my computer, on the left hand side of the screen there is a box that says "other places" go to "my network places" you should now be able to see the folders you shared on your laptop.

    if you cant see the folders select "view workgroup computers" on the left hand side of the screen, your laptop should show up in there.

    @Solargame
    I know SypherTek already sorted the problem out for you but in the event that you never had internet access or a wireless home network. A cheap solution would have been to get a cross over cable which hard wires the ethernet ports of your laptop and your desktop. You would have followed a similar home network setup and then be able to transfer files at a much faster transfer rate than via a wireless connection. If you wanted mobility around the house and still syn the info on your laptop and your PC another alternative would have been to use Bluetooth USB dongles on both computers. I know that this is only academic since your question has been answered but it might come in handy some other time.

    Sure thing. Have a look at this guide. It looks like a regulaur patch cable(ie Cat 5, 5e, etc) but the way the wires are connected at one end makes all the difference. I think some manufacturers have a different colour code for them. Just curious but what's the brand & colour of your cable http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/228856
