Got my iPod. Now what do I do?

    Ok I just got the iPod Nano 4gig. My collection of music is all in mp3 format and ranges from 112kbps bitrate to 320kbps. I wanna know how the get the most out of my new iPod (best sound quality/size). What program should I use to encode my music? Someone please give me step by step instructions about how to get my iPod perfect!
