hi. i have a dell dim 8300. My power supply is 305w. I recently installed 4gb of ram. With dell you have to install dual sticks, so i have 4 sticks 1gig each. I tried to upgrade my video card from a nvidia 5200 agp to a nvidia geforce 7600gt agp. I read on some of the forums it was compatible with my system. I've been having lots of problems with this card. When i install the7600gt my monitor says "MONITOR POWER SAVING MODE." I sent the first one back and recieved a new one. Still having same problem. Unsure where to go from here, so i took it in to a tech store to have a look at it. They checked bios, tried a 400w power supply, removed 2 sticks of ram to see if it made a difference. Still no luck. The techs said during start up they would hear three short beeps but that was only after they hit the delete button. In the end, they told me the card was problaby 5 volts and they think my system can only handle 3.5. But most of the forums i read said this card works with my system. What am I doing wrong!!??? Please help!!!! Thanks, adtnsd.

Some 7600GT AGPs have power connectors at the back that you need to plug in. Does yours?

It may even have a 6 pin type plug. (my palit 7600GS did)
If it has a 6 pin then make sure that plug isn't sharing a circuit with the 4 pin connected to your motherboard, mine wouldn't boot like that.
I had to get an adapter- 4 pin molex to 6 pin.

Hey thanks alot for the quick responses from you guys. I really appreciate it. Yes, my card does have power connectors and I've pluged it into my psu. I not sure, but I've been told that the voltage of my agp slot is a 1.5. And the voltage of the new card is higher then that. Here are some pictures. Check out the part that goes into the agp slots.

My old card looks like this:[IMG]

My new card looks like this:[IMG]

Does it make a difference? Will my new card work in my system?

here are the specs for my system:

    Thanks again, adtnsd

The dell website suggested you have an 8x slot, which uses the newer voltage (which I think is 0.8V). Only 4x and lower were 'wrong' with regards to voltage. However, if your existing card had three notches at the bottom like the one you showed, then that is certainly a problem, and you will need to track down a 4x card. To be honest, I wouldn't bother, I'd keep the FX5200 if it works. 4x AGP is more than 5 years out of date.

    Well that would do it.
I'm just trying to figure out how you slot a PCI-e card into a AGP slot? lol

You don't. You send it back. I've been there before, I got conned by the exact same trick. Difference is, I bought it from an online store!
