Ok so many of us have done it - we've lost our iTunes library and our music on our iPod. Thats why i have made this little guide to make sure that you dont lose your library next time you wipe your computer or your computer crashes.

    [bold]Where iTunes saves its library[/bold]

iTunes creates a folder in 'My Music' during its installation which will contain your library and other things it needs. So everytime you edit your library it will be saved in there ;).

    [bold]Backing it up [/bold]

So to back it up you can:

    1) put it on a floppy disk
    2) put it on a USB flash pen
    3) put it on CD/DVD
    4) put it on an external or seperate HDD
or any other way you can think of backing data up

all you do is copy the [bold]'iTunes'[/bold] folder which is located in [bold]My Documents ---> My Music[/bold] to one of the storage methods shown above. This will back up your library :) [bold]Note: if your not planning on wiping your computer i would back it up every time you update your library just in case. i would do this on a re-writeable media format[/bold]

[bold]Puting it back on your PC after you have wiped it[/bold]

all you do for this is very simple - install iTunes of the web or the installation CD you got with your iPod. [bold]DO NOT CONNECT YOUR iPOD TO YOU PC YET[/bold] Then all you do just simply replace the new 'iTunes' file in [bold]My documents ---> My music[/bold] with the old one. just copy it off your media device and paste in my music - then you will get the option 'would you like to replace this file?' you click 'yes' or 'yes to all' - This will now copy the library back to your pc. When it's completed just open iTunes and it should be there!

Once you have checked that it worked you can connect your iPod and add things to your library again!

If you encounter any problems please PM me or add a comment below :)

Nice efforts here my friend ;)

    But I don't think a 1.4mb floppy disk is a lot of good :)

it depends on how big your library is...

it only saves the library file not the music on the library if you know what i mean
