Hey Try setting the drive to single(no jumper installed) if you want to run with only one device on the IDE channel. The settings for WD are a little tricky. http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc...3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWp1bXBlciBzZXR0aW5ncw**&p_li=
The page u sent me just goes to a black page for me also ill give that a shot what u said thanks man ill let u know how it goes
i put the drive in with no jumpers on and it didnt detect the drive is there any other solutions that may work
Did you put the drive alone on the cable? Try installing the drive alone with no jumper. Reboot into Bios and set Default settings. Reboot and it should show up in Bios and Disk Management.
ok it was the only drive on the cable and there was no jumper and it didnt show up in bios and yea i cant check in dis managment because theres no os installed what should i try now? Thanks
Does the drive spin when installed? What do you have on each IDE cable? When the system boots, what does the screen say?
Does the drive spin when installed? Yes What do you have on each IDE cable? Main one has the hdd and other one has a dvd+/-rw and a CD-RW drive When the system boots, what does the screen say? DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER what should i do now
are you using a 80 wire cable or 40 wire. if 80 is drive on end or in middle, if in middle move to end connector(black not blue)as some cables have pin missing & will only see drive if drive setup as slave
Hey If you still have no luck, download Disk Wizard Starter Edition. Maybe it will help. http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/drivers/discwiz.html
Hey In your first post you say your buddy installed the 160GB and it didn't show up in My Computer - did it show up in the Bios? Double check that the jumper settings are correct... http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc...nBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9anVtcGVyIHNldHRpbmdz&p_li=

Hey Look at the last link I posted and try your drive with the CSEL setting with you drive on the end of the cable. Try in the middle too. Try also the single setting in the diagram. Try the drive on both IDE channels. Try a different cable. Do your CD/DVD show in Bios?
ok it showed up in bois but when i try to install windows xp it says "setup cannot access this disk" what do i do now
