I upgraded my Xbox hard drive to 120 GB:
I successfully locked the drive- I think- and I’m able to boot to evox CD. I selected the install new hard drive function and 1.5 seconds later it said "done"

Problem: I cant ftp my backup files to the hard drive (via flashfxp) - although I can see the drive partitions and the content of the current CD

Can someone explain how to fix the problem??? or what I did wrong...

    more information:
the drive is a "Diamond" 120gb/ata133/7200rpm/8mb cache

does anybody here have experience in upgrading their hard drive??? if you do how exactly did you do it. is there a reason that the evox setup cd isnt partitioning my drive???

The easiest way would be to use and Auto Installer disc like Team Xaviers or SLayers. Just swap in your harddrive and load the disc. It will Format, Partition and install everything you'll need.

The bios wouldn't have any effect on formatting or partitioning the harddrive as far as I know.
If you used Slayers did you first try to format the drive? Did the psrtitions look correct?
Make sure you also have the jumper setting on the harddrive set correctly.

Thanks for all the help dude- I resolved the problem. Apparently you can’t format a drive when it’s locked! I think the “M7”bios was bypassing the Xbox’s mechanism that unlocks the drive. So the new drive remained locked and appeared to have no space or something. So I disabled the lock and successfully formatted it.

QUICK question: Since I can get to the MS-Dash and disable my mod chip- do I need to lock my drive before getting on Xbox live???

Yes, the harddrive must be locked to use XBLive.

Try reflashing your chip with an Evox bios.
Some X2 bios files skip the DVD drive at start up and try to load straight from the harddrive. Yours being empty you'll just get errors.

I do not get an error message...and everything works perfect when using the old hardrive. Its just the new one. It only reaches the X sceen and doesnt load past. I am fixing to try and do the partitions through the computer, I was told to get a program and use that so i am going to give it a try!
