Ok, I spent all day looking for a fix... please help.

I have a softmodded xbox and I unlocked my harddrive in config magic. I rebooted my xbox and BOOM, error code 5. At least I was smart enough (or so i thought) to take a picture of the ConfigMagic unlock screen to save my 'codes'.
    http://hemiboy.com/PicSite/t/2.jpg

When I unlocked it, ConfigMagic said my password was TEAMASSEMBLY, so I got hdlock.exe and used that password to lock it again. It said 'done' so I thought all was well but my xbox now said error code 6. Krap.

So I put the drive back in my pc and locked it with hdlock.exe and then UNlocked (unlock.exe) it with the ConfigMagic code starting with 2722D5421...etc but I left it in all caps. When the xbox said code 6 again, i tried unlocking it with lowercase but I'm still getting code 6.

What am I doing wrong? Did I f##k it up my locking and unlocking too many times or is the drive still locked with the orginal code from ConfigMagic.

Any experts out the that think they can help me???

Do you have a backup of your eeprom on a floppy or any other type or media? If you do, try using XBOXHDM. I have a pre-burned copy you can download. Just put the eeprom files on a floppy to use thru xboxhdm, it makes it easier. Heres the link

    Hope this helps you some!

Since you're getting error code 6, you've locked it with the wrong password. Since you locked it with TEAMASSEMBLY as the password, how about trying that to unlock it? The one Config Magic is giving you is the one you should've locked it with to begin with, as TEAMASSEMBLY isn't a valid hard drive password.

In the off chance that you can't unlock it, just get a spare hard drive and prep it with xboxhdm, then lock it with 2722D5421...etc. Or, get a mod chip and just keep it unlocked.

Venom, I think your ideas are the way to go.

I DO have the correct eprom on a cd. I tried to UNLOCK it with that eprom but it just ist working.

I have spare 80gb I could use, but what do I do with my 160Gb drive that is incorrectly locked? Is it only good in a chiped xbox? Is there a way to make it work in a pc?

I guess there is no way of me getting my data off of that 160gb either?

Also, I did try to unlock it with TEAMASSEMBELY but it give an error message that the password can not contain letters G-Z or somthing.

Well, there's a retail program that can unlock hard drives without the password. Xbox-Scene had listed it in a news story months ago about it being free for a bit. Apparently, they forgot to stop giving it out for free, so you can still get it off their website. If your hard drive is supported, you might have a chance at saving it.

Oh, and a chipped Xbox can't use a locked hard drive if it doesn't have the password for it. The only reason I suggested getting a chip is so you wouldn't have to lock a replacement hard drive.

    WHOOHO! Its fixed!

    ...
    ....
Ok, Ok, I'll tell you what I did:

My problem was that I was using the DOS AND Linux versions of locking tools.

The first time i tried to lock my drive I used DOS and the password TEAMASSEMBLY (which was wrong). Then I found my boot CD that had my eprom on it so I started using the friendly Linux version of hdlock/unlock. The Linus version would not allow characters g-z in the password so I was stuck with TEAMASSEMBLY as my locked password.

I then went back to my boot floppy and used dos with my eeprom from my cd and IT WORKED.

    :)

First off, the xbox needs the HDD to be locked to work, not unlocked. The only time you need to unlock the HDD is when you are going to run XBOXHDM on it thru a PC. If the problem is with the PC aspect of it, make sure the PC you are using does not have the security features disabled in the BIOS. If thats the case, you need to connect the HDD to the PC after the XBOXHDM menu comes up. The PC can't lock the HDD at boot if theres no HDD attached!

I know that the hdd needs to be locked, but for it to work the xbox needs to unlock the locked hdd itself or it is going to come up with an error messege of 05. I just can't lock it for it to work in the xbox. But I think I figured it out, but I am not quite sure yet. I put on configmagic on the xbox and looked at the lock pass to do it on. So I am going to make a dos boot disk and use lockhd.exe on it with that same pass and see if it will work. But if anyone sees a fault in that please tell me because I am working all this week untill wed and I won't have time untill then to do it. And thanks again.
