when you install your new hard drive, everything that is currently on your computer will be on your old hard drive. if you clone your old drive to your new one, you can then keep your old one for backup purposes or do whatever you want with it. if you can't clone the drive, you need a windows cd to install windows on the new drive. from there, you can keep both drives in your computer (assuming you have the boot order set properly) and then just copy your files from your old drive to your new one. reinstall your programs and you're good to go.

personally, i'd just leave the old drive in there. it's just more space to back stuff up on or just to store to in general.

By reinstall your programs, do u mean in installing all your programs back? I thought that once u clone ur old drive to the new one, all the programs from my old one go into my new one.So wat do u mean by reinstalling ur programs? Does this mean that i just download the windows xp from my old HD by "cloning" and i install my old programs again from like that website/cd???
