Hi I just bought a second hand Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop without a harddisk. I removed a harddisk from my old laptop and put it in the caddy of my new laptop. While booting I got an error that no disks were found. I thought at first that I wrecked the disk during transfer, but when I tested it again in my old laptop it worked fine. After trying a few things I finally decided to disassemble my new laptop to see if something was wrong inside. I found that the harddisk and the motherboard aren't connected. There is a small gap of a few mm between them. Did I do something wrong or am I missing a component? I would really appreciate your help. There are only four screws and 4 holes, and this is the only way it fits (and I believe it is supposed to fit).
Interesting, because as I see it there, the drive is never going to fit. The caddy you have the drive in requires there to be nothing outside the drive left or right, and in the chassis of that laptop there is. Are you sure it's the right caddy for that laptop?
Thanks for your reply. I am beginning to doubt myself... I got this caddy together with the laptop'so I think so. I got the same idea when I first saw it, but I hoped it was something different. are there any other ideas?
you are missing the extender adapter that plugs onto the male pins of the drive & into the right angled connector right behind the drive tray. is a solid piece of plastic not mylar ribbon cable. ask the person you got the laptop from for the adapter as mot like that person didn't realise he/she has it.
