Ok folks here is my situation.

Recently I got into backing up my DVD's and what not and all was going well, then one day, all of the sudden it would not write DVD's anymore. I have been through the wood shed with a few friends and them trying to figure out what went wrong and we can't tell. It seems that sfter I put a host of different software on my system, that something just doesn't work anymore. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem as the drive, which is a DVD+-RW drive on my notebook computer still reads DVD's and CD's and sometimes will still write CD's without error (mostly with an error) but will not longer burn DVD's, I just get some non descript error message and the DVD won't burn. The software that I have recently added to my computer was DVD Decrypter, CloneDVD, and DVD shrink, I also have Nero on my system as well as Sonic DVDit (which was pre installed on my system when I bought it). I was able to rip a few movies and burn them to DVD and then all of the sudden it just stopped working. One suggestion that I had from a friend was that their may be a problem involving virtual drives (I recently had Alcohol 120% on my system) and he thought that Alcohol could be contributing to the problem (and not my Alcohol problem :) ) still another option that I have heard was that their could be some kind of Firmware problem. Does anybody have any idea of what I can do to get this drive burning again.

    Thanks

    Here are my specs

    HP Pavillion notebook ZD7000us
    P4 3.2 ghz H/T
    1 GB RAM
    100 GB HD
    300 External Seagate HD
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 128mb video card
    HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GCA4040N
    17" VGA widescreen

you might want to try to uninstall all your software and then only have the ones that you know such as an encoder and a burning app.As you get more burning apps on your pc there is some conjection that the more apps you get you will eventually get a crash on your pc.

Have you done a defrag recently, what version of nero are you running?

I am running Nero 7 premium and I have not defraged lately. I will try uninstalling a the programs and just reinstalling what I need, should I uninstall the hardware and reinstall that too?

not at this stage as i suspect a software problem rather than a hard ware one
