Can anybody help me?? I just purchased a philips DVD player product DVP5960 that supposedly plays HD DVD. The product did not come with a HDMI cable so I purchased one seperatly. I then purchased the HD DVD 300 and it would not recognise the disc the player was reading 'no disc' After a bit of research I realised the player is compatible with 720p and 1080i and the DVD was 1080p will this dvd player play normal HD DVDs (1080p) or are there any HD DVDs that I can get hold of that are compatible (720p/1080i) or am I missing something??????????
first thing it doesn't matter whats the resolution of the movie(ina way yes if u like the top of the spec's) even though ur player isn't 1080p it will downgrade to the players spec (downgrade- don't scare not in a bad way good way) now if its dvd player hddvd won't play u have to have hddvd player now if its both formats u need to flip the disc
The Philips DVP5960 does not play HD DVD's that's why it doesn't recognize the disc. It plays regular DVD's and upconverts them to 1080i. http://www.amazon.com/Philips-DVP5960-Player-Upscaling-direct/dp/B000G18DR0 To play HD DVD's you need to get one of the Toshiba HD DVD players or, if you have an XBox 360, the MS HD DVD add-on. http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_lin..._rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=316757701&pf_rd_i=193642011 However, the 300 HD DVD is what's called a Combo Format disc: http://www.amazon.com/300-Combo-HD-...=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1196515272&sr=1-24 The reverse side of the disc is a regular DVD. Just flip the disc over to Side B and it should play in your Philips.
