i just need some insight. i went into bios and it has it on auto. if i change it to LARGE it chages some number around from 65565 or something like that a 4 thousand number. what does this allow? i have a 750GB western digital hard drive. will it make any difference on what setting its on? i tried looking it up online but couldnt find anything. on another note. i was readin on the AHCI mode for sata. it says you have to enable it. how do you know if its already on? does it make a difference as well? i have windows 7 x64.
AHCI is on by default on most boards...some companies (Intel) recommend that you use RAID instead, as it still has AHCI, but it also has other features as well. This seems mostly to be because of windows's activation; switching to RAID later can mess it up. As for the "LARGE" setting, do not use this. This is an almost forgotten legacy feature for very old hard dives. Just leave it as auto.
i have a P5N-T Deluxe Motherboardi cant seem to find anywhere where it says to enable it. do i have to put two hard drives or will one be fine?
It might not be called AHCI, but your bios should have some kind of "Legacy ATA" option...as long as it isn't set to legacy, AHCI should be on.
ok. could memory under voltage cause a system to fail while playing a game? i have the ocz sli pc6400 memory. it says @2.1 Volts. but my motherboard has them at 1.7 - 1.8 when i have the setting on auto. my system crashes from time to time. It started doing the same thing again. i thought it was my video card so i RMA. yet they say there is nothing wrong with it. ive stated this before but till now it just occurd to me to ask about the volts.
Yes, undervoltage on the memory can cause crashes. If it worked fine before, that makes no difference...over time, memory needs more power to work than it did when it was new. Set the memory to the correct voltage, even if you have to override the defaults.
ok thanks for the help. now i just have to wait for my video card to get sent back to me. its been 3 weeks since they recieved it and still no word on when ill be getting it back.
