If you just made a new build and want to use a hard drive from an old computer as your new C drive, do you have to format it or can you just reinstall your OS on the HD on your computer and keep all the files?
Thanks I just wanted to know before I format (or not)

If you use the same chipset manufacturer, you often don't even need to reinstall windows, just reactivate it. If you want one particular drive to be C: though, install windows with nothing but it connected.

If the chipset is different, you might still be able to get away without a re-install by booting into safe mode, going into device manager, and deleting every device that you are changing out.
