hey guys, this is my first thread on after dawn, and i need a question or two answered, basically i have got new hard drive(not in yet), and this probably really stupid but, if i unplug my existing hdd and plug the brand new one in will this affect my dvd burner usage(both hdd and burner on ide) as in will i still be able to open the burner and read cds, anyway thanks guys, hope to hear from you soon cya
well you had better hope so. its going to be real hard getting windows on that new hdd, without a cd rom. all of the pcs ive worked on have 2 seperate slots on the motherboard. one for hdd and one for optic drives. one is blue and the other is black. so a new hard drive wouldnt effect the dvdburner. place windows cd in drive. then connect new drive and power up pc. it should ask if u want to boot from cd press any key. if the new hdd is larger than 130gb then u would need to put the cd to enable the larger drive in first or use partition magic.
