Hello, I am new to the dvd-rw world. I have a sony dru-530a. We finally got it installed properly in the tower. I also have dvd x copy platinum. I havd it for sometime now . I knew I was going to get the burner. I know a little backwards lol Ok here is my question, I am totally lost on how to use DVD X copy I have a lot of gray areas like the one that say write it greyed out. I need help to get started. I got this software to back up dvd in my home now I am wondering. Could some one help me please? I was also told to ask for [bold]"Public walk through"[/bold]. So I would appreciate all the help there is. I am so new to this thank you Gretta
Depending on the version of Platinum that you have, there may be a guide included in the platinum folder. Open windows explorer Go to program files>321studios>platinum Now in the Platinum folder you should see a .pdf file. This is your users guide. If you dont have Platinum RF, goto the 321studios site and DL it, just be certain and place it in a different folder when it asked, where you want to save it. THe original location is program files>321studios>platinum Dont allow it to install to the Platinum folder,, Installing to the Platinum RF folder is ok.\\Or you can open a hotmail account and get Instant messenger version 6.2 and I can IM it to you. If you choose this method, hit me by PM,;ie Private message\\\ Also here is a listing of programs that conflict with XCOPY. This software blacklist applies only to the DVD X Copy line (including DVD Copy Plus), as well as burn-related issues with other 321 Studios software titles: 1. B's Clip: This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, then reboot to remove it. For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com. 2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk: These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. To remove them you need to do to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to change, not remove. Then you must click next until it gives you the option to modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click next and while the program may look like it is installing, it is removing those options. One thing to remember is that both Direct CD and Drag to Disk will not be installed at the same time. For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml 3. GoBack: backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) this needs not only to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space. For more information visit Symantec's web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html 4. DLA: Also HP-DLA, Veritas DLA, and others. DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, then reboot to remove it. 5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom. For more information go to Nero's website at http://www.nero.com/en/ 6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player: These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves everytime you watch a movie on your computer. Please make sure to NOT let these install. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add or Remove programs in control panel when found. In some cases, you will need to uninstall and reinstall our software to restore functionality after removing one of these. For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/ 7. McAfee Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, McAfee needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. For more info go to McAfee's website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp 8. Norton Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic updates should be disabled. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, Norton needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/ 9. StopZilla: StopZilla can hinder required portions of our installer, causing the software to fail. Please completely disable StopZilla, then install our software. Once our software is installed, you may safely enable it again. If you have any difficulty using our software at a later time, you may need to disable StopZilla before going to use our software. Uninstallation is not required. 10. MyStorageGuard: This backup software can hinder certain required files from being copied during the installation. Please disable this program before installing our software, and have it disabled any time you go to use our software. Uninstallation is not required. 11. Napster 2.0: This software includes some basic burning software that can cause burning problems if it is running. You will need to close this program completely before trying to use our software. In some rare cases, you will need to completely uninstall this package to attain full reliability, so if disabling does not solve your issue, please try uninstalling this software, and try again. 12. Easy CD Creator 4.x: Due to the age of this package, it is no longer updated by the authors. There are bugs present in this older system that will cause NUMEROUS problems on your machine, not just with our software. Please Uninstall completely, and consider either the new 6.x version from Roxio (http://www.roxio.com) or Nero 6.x (http://www.nero.com). These packages, installed without the Packet Writing software (DirectCD/Drag to Disk/InCD), all work very well together with our software. Spyware and Adware - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-Aware, available freely at http://www.lavasoftusa.com If you perform any of these changes, you may need to uninstall our software, then re-install to fix any damage left. If you find some of these packages, please shut down and reboot twice to ensure that the last pieces of the conflicting software are completely removed.
Hi Gretta, I have no idea what a "public walk through" is. Well I dusted off the cobwebs from my Xcopy express and it still burns the same way it always has. I loaded up a burned DVD to test with and made a copy to a DVD-RW disc. I found express in explorer opened it and clicked on PcSetup.exe and found the following: Access layer test and configuration Details: Status: Patin Couffin driver ready and active internal revision 21 # of host adapters found: N/A # of CD device(s) found: 2 The window shows my setup, it looks like this: Patin Couffin driver 1:1:0 JLMS XJ-HD 166S DS1C [E] (Ide) Media not found 1:1:0 Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-107D [F] (Ide) Media not found So basically what all this is saying is that I have the correct driver for the program, my E drive is a 166S and F drive is a Pioneer 107D. Media not found because there is none in the drives. Yours should look very similar, especially the part about the driver. Make sure you have it installed. A couple of more things... Make sure your burner is recognized in windows. You may want to try and burn a CD with the drive just to make sure this problem is being caused by the Express program and not by something else. Make sure you have the jumper on the back of the drive set correctly. This is explained in your installation instructions. Let us know how this works out. Cheers, Frank
HI there! thanks for the answer. A friend found a tut online with pictures and everything. I tried to burn the dvd and got some errors. I am just coming in to read your messages. I will try to make a cd first to make sure the burner is installed correctly as you suggested.. then I will try it again. I will pm you as well. ty for the help. I do have a question before I go. I do have [bold]roxio 6[/bold] on my computer. I wanted to understand conrrectly. Should I take it off my computer. that is the software I use to make my cd's. I think I will pm you as well for that i am not sure about what to do with that. I also have [bold]Norton[/bold] and [bold]go back[/bold] I can disable them in start up or should i just disable them on the task bar?. I have [bold]stopzilla[/bold] as well. so I am hitting pretty good if you ask me with all your warnings on the list 321sucker.lol Frank, I will be back and look at what you posted. I will do one thing at a time.. he he Right now i am going to try making a cd and then I will see if the burner is in properly. Be back in a few thanks for the help guys. Oh by the way the link to the tutorial I think was in here somewhere just incase some one else wanted it. http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/57685 Thank again for the help Gretta
Ok before i go off i thought i should tell you the things that are on my computer. I do not see whaere i could edit my last post. My PC Pent 4 2.8 ghz 1024 mb of ram 2 hdrives 80 gb a piece windows xp my burner is a sony Dru-530A I have DVD X copy Platinum version 3.2.1 I want to use it to copy dvd movies I have in my home. If that is possible. there that is what i have and what i want to do . thanks,
Gretta-Since you're new to all this DVD burning stuff, maybe you should try to burn movies with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. They work togrther and if you read these forums, you'll see that a lot of people use these programs. I also have Platinum but stopped using it when I learned how easy and better it is with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. Just a sugestion though. Platinum always worked for me but I lot of people have problems with it.
ty it looked like it was going to work i am going to go to run and type mscongfig and get a lot of the things off of start up. i have a few and then i am ogoing to try it again I was able to burn a cd so it is not the burner so far. I am going to check out those links. I been reading and I see that a lot. in the mean time I paide for this software I would like for it to work lol thanks for the help. I am about to try to work some more.
Gretta, As cruester mentioned allot of us have had XCopy in one form or another and have gotten tired of it - The programs that he mentioned are excellent and are FREE ! The thing about it is, they can backup a DVD in 3 clicks after setup whereas your XCopy takes 4 clicks, Go Figure ? Anyway, Welcome to our little Club and here's a link for those programs and a step by step (can't miss) guide should you want to try it - (The guide is at the bottom of the page.) http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/79846 Good luck in your ventures and if you need us, we'll be here - -> over there, by the water cooler ) cheers Pete
I couldn't agree more. Earlier, when I did that little test, I copied a birthday video I shot with my camcorder and burned to a DVD. The first thing I noticed was that the program wanted to call home, I didn't let it. Then it put that big stupid warning at the start which is just a pain in the butt and sure didn't help 321 from becoming shark bait, IMHO.
Hi there fasfrank, long time no see ) Thanks for the reminder - Gretta, For being such a nice constant on our show, we'd like to present you with a little parting gift for your at home viewing pleasure - it's called 321GONE !! A cute little package that can be used with your 321 XCopy Xpress – when used with Xpress it gets rid of that extremely annoying 321 Warning screen and let's you see the movie the way it's supposed to be seen without the unnecessary 321 advertising at the beginning - So without further ado, heeeere's 321Gone !! - http://psidoc0.tripod.com/ cheers, Sea Yaaaaaa, Pete
oh wow guys thanks a lot. Now i want to know i i need to get nero with this. i know i use to have nero but an old one I think. I was using roxio to make my cd's I thought i got the decrypt thingy but i do not se it in my folder. I will try to get that again. be right back
snother question as i am readin in the forum. I bought sony dvd's could that be my problem? i am trying to think of everything. and i have no clue at the same time lol
Gretta- You don't need Nero if you're burning with DVD X Copy Platinum ver. 321. You do need Nero to burn with DVD Shrink.
ok i purchase dvd x copy pltinum. i want the darn thing to work lol well i am going to uninstall it and then reinstall and see if that does any thing. then i am going to go lie down i feel awful.
Gretta, We totally understand - Been there, Done that - I wanted something for my $109.00USD - worked long and hard to get it going - it wasn't too bad with the 321Gone ! Still, after awhile, I tried the two programs I told you about - Cheers Gretta, Sea Yaaaaaaaaaaa, Pete _________________________________________________________________________ _X_X_X_X_X_[small] The “old man” Pete (ö¿ô) Compaq 8000, Pent 4 CPU 2.84GHz, 1024MB RAM, 520GB HD. 4 Drives, JLMS DVD ROM, Pioneer 107, 8X R/W , Nec 4X R/W ND-1300A, AXV CD/DVD-ROM. ok i got some advice.. it is always a good thing one who has the same dvd hard ware as mine. I have to ask him one more question though. Like you guys he told me to get rid of Roxio. I do not have a problem with that. only thing is i use t o use it to make my creator. ANy ways. I will try today to take that off my pc. ty for the advice guys. I am sure I will be back lol
Gretta, You should be able to keep your Roxio if you un-tick it in your msconfig startup window - You shouldn't have it running when using DVD XCopy. Roxio doesn't play well with others. I liked it for doing my music CD's but it did cause trouble with quite a few of my other programs so I uninstalled it and now use Nero instead. Nero gets along with most ewverybody - ) Sea Yaaaaaaaaa, Pete
Pete I been took it off start up using msconfig. umm does Nero have an software for making cd covers. if i could just keep my jewel case from roxio that would be great. or i will have to look a a good free one. lol thanks. I was about to take roxio off. now what if leave roxio on and put Nero on. won't Nero6 be the dominant one? I know that works that wya with my pain programs. just my little brain going right now..lol
Dominate one ??? I've got no idea what you mean - Roxio messes up other programs, if you want to keep it, have it turned off when you're using backup programs. Period. I spent $14.99USD for a Fellows Neato program with a label applicator and have been happy as a clam in a tidal pool ) The biggest problem with labels, they can't be off center by much to make a CD/DVD unplayable or to trash the drive itself. The applicator is the way to go, over 600 backups and less than a 1/2 dozen problems, me being the cause of them all :-( Anyway, the choice is yours - Sea Yaaaaaaaa, Pete
