    Hi y'all,

I've got a serious problem here. My Samsung writemaster (external) does not seem to copy DVD files any longer, ever since a couple of months ago. Funny thing is my burner does play DVDs normally, music (it even burns it), whatever, but it fails when it comes to DVD burning. I don’t know what could have happened but I think I already tried it all: changing blank DVDs brand, updating software (nero + shrink + DVD Region Free+CSS), updating firmware (funny, sometimes while doing this it says the firmware does not correspond to the device, sometimes it says the firmware is the latest version though), burning at a lower speed, trying another burning software (1copyDVDpro), BUT NOTHING, it just won’t go. The problem comes up when I put a blank DVD into the burner, and this is preparing to start burning. This happens no matter whether I previously compressed the files (with the DVDShrink) or just plainly go to for an exact copy of the original DVD. So, to wrap up, it reads, plays, writes (to hard drive), allows compression, but DOES NOT BURN.

I have the two last readouts I got from Nero after the burnings failed. I could email them on request so any of you guys can disentangle them as to get some clue as where to look. I’m just beginning to think that it might be a hardware/firmware thing.

Thanx in advance for your time,

    Pablo

Sounds to me you got the nero software installed in the wrong location should in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero StartSmart. not in
C:\UTILITIES\Core\ you using the 7.0.0.0 .I use the 6.0.1.8 version ..I believe it is..7 was giving me to much problems check to see if the drive is set (dma)direct memory access not PIO and if your trying to burn disc to disc as..I see you got another dvd rom on your system no nero software will let you do that. You need Transcoder like anydvd or imgburn and clonedvd 2 with anydvd working in the background.I check the specs on your drive and came up with this site
    http://www.samsung.com/nl/products/odd/dvdwriters/sh_s182m.asp

you say u got the external this the internal same model.> I got the old Sh--W162c model ..I dont use it no more to burn movies cause upgrade to a Lite-on Lh-18A1P 18x and Benq LS-DW1655 Dont need sammy no more plus it's not a good quality burner..O Well just go back and uninstall that nero and put in your programs file and see if that works and your burner should be your master not the slave on your ide cable change that around two by switching the pin set on the back of the rom's.i should know .I built Computers in my spare time and work on them..try it see whats happen's let me know by a pm.

You are using two different versions of Nero, you need to pick which one you want and use the clean tools from here ~ http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-cleantools.html ~ then run Ccleaner, reboot and reinstall the version of your choice. Both versions you are using are ancient.

    Nero 6.6.0.18 ~

    Package 1: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    Package 2: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

    Update Nero 7 ~

    http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-nero7-update.php

Your firmware is the latest according to the Samsung website ~ http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/

The top log shows you using

I would suggest Verbatims as you are using in your second log.

Slow your burn speed down to no less than 8X, as in your second log, and no more than 12X.
You are using DVD Shrink and it doesn't spit out any kind of error? Try ripping to your HDD first using DVDFab HD Decrypter and then continue with DVD Shrink and see if you get any joy.

Thank you guys for all your suggestions, but it didnt seem to work.

LOCOENG, I just tried all what you said:

    1. Got rid of one of the nero versions (6XXX)
    2. Used the nero cleaning tool and then ccleaner
    3. Reinstalled nero 7 and relocated to proper folder (progam files)
    4. Tried to update nero 7 from the page you gave me but failed (some redundancy error came up, you know why?)
    5. Used Verbatims DVDs (ID: MCC) as you mentioned
    6. Slowed down burning speed to 12x

Plus, DVDShrink shows no errors at all. The problem turns up solely while burning. Remember that I have a laptop and an external burner (samsung), and this burning problem appeared a couple of months ago with no apparent reason. Below, my last burning log from a failed attempt (which actually got to 12% of the movie burned):
