I'm baffled. I'm pretty retarded when it comes to these things but I figured it shouldn't be this difficult. I downloaded some movie I used to have but lost, I can't figure out what kind of file it is. The icon just says "Image files" and under properties. I've downloaded like 12 programs to convert it. I'm assuming it needs to be a .iso file to play on my dvd player? The only program that will play it with sound is VLC media player that I've found. I burned it and it does play on my dvd player with some prog called ImgBurn, but it's all skippy. That program recognizes it as a .iso, but it's the only one, every other program doesn't even recognize it at all. Anybody able to help me? I'm beyond frustrated.

first off ....... there are many formats that this image file can be if you downloaded it from the internet! It could be an AVI file, Bin & Cue files, WMV, or other image files. An ISO is an image of the whole disk! Anyway..... it seems you converted it using one of your 12 programs that you have to convert files to DVD compliant files ready for burning by ImgBurn (which happens to be a great free burning software!). You go on to say that your dvd play plays the disk but it's all skippy! Well, it's your media! you are using crappy media that your player is having difficulty reading the disk! Skipping, freezing, pixelations, and player compatibility are due to crappy media! use quality media MIJ (made in Japan) and burn at half the rated speed of your disk (if 16x then burn at 8x). Starting off with better media will reduce your chances of bad burns. Get some Taiyo Yuden from online stores or just buy Vertabtim, which is made in Taiwan/Singapore and is the only exception to the MIJ rule! Look on the label of the box or spindle and make sure it says MIJ or just buy Verbatim! Now examine your burner: Does it have the newest firmware available to burn to the newest media? Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. It also adds more media codes and write strategies to the drive to improve burning capabilities and disk recognition. It's important to keep the firmware up to date! and there are plenty of other things to think about when burning movies from the internet! I can go on but you would need to give more information about what your make and model # of your burner is and what programs you are using and how you are using them! don't get frustrated..... just get the right information together and ask your questions here so Afterdawn members can answer them..... remember to give more information about your set up and what programs you are using and what you did to get to where you are now! ok..... welcome to afterdawn!
