I just recently bought my computer. I downloaded a bunch of video (kid shows) that I want to burn to a DVD for my son. For a while there, I couldn't figure out how to burn them to a disc using Nero, but now I got the hang of that. Problem is now that I got all the files together, Nero won't let me burn them to a DVD disc, and gives me a message like "Incorrect Format". A friend just explained the difference to me about VCD's and DVD's, and the VCD worked. However as you probably know, there is a lot less space on a VCD.
So my question is, how do I record to a DVD instead? What am I doing wrong in Nero? This has been going on for a month now, and I just want it over with. As soon as I figure it out, I find out I really don't know what I'm doing.

    Thanks for any help.

ps I havea DVD-RW drive 4x +/- OEM, if that helps
    also, I have Nero 6.0 I believe

Thanks for writing back. Most are avi files. Some say MPEG. I got them from Kazaa. Like I said, I'm not to sure about Nero, so any help is appreciated. If I can' use Nero, what can I do to get them onto a DVD? Now when I frig around with trying to get the files to Nero, it tells me "no compatible file found", so I'm no better off then before.

I'm afraid you'll get no help here in this forum because piracy isn't discussed. This forum is for backing up your purchased dvd's. If you have problems with that anyone here will be glad to help you.[IMG]

The best way to do this is by using a dvd authoring software such as tmpgenc which you can find the guide on how to use on this site.Unlead dvd movie maker is another you can use.Sometimes the files you get from place like kazza do not go straight through this software so you may have to use something like easy video x converter to convert to mpeg. Then put it through the authoring software i mentioned to convert to dvd.

Thanks everyone. Sorry I didn't know the rules, maybe I should have read the Code of Conduct or something. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Perhaps I should just rent the DVD's and burn them that way. Seems less complicated. Thanks for your time.

MurphyRR, you should only backup movies you own.

I said maybe, never said I'd do it. There was a hint of sarcasm there, kinda hard to read I realize.

MurphyRR, this is a pretty nice place to escape to when you're looking for complicated technical information. A few decent rules prevents outside forces from stepping in and closing us down. Many people come here with the intention to learn how to pirate copyrighted materials but that goes against the sites purpose, knowledge. When a member reminds you of that, they aren't doing it to create conflict with you, they're doing it to help you remain here in good standing and to protect this wonderful resource.

Honestly guys/ gals, my feelings weren't hurt, and I did get some useful info out of the chat. I realize the situation, but didn't realize that I overstepped any bounderies. I respect the fact that you have to keep things clean, and I will come back to this site when I need further assistance. By the way, keep up the good work. Very informative stuff that I was looking at yesterday, this copying thing has a lot more depth than I ever thought.
