I am a newb so please dont flame me. I use autogk to convert dvd's to xvid or divx. Its a simple and great program for someone that travels alot and likes to put movies on their laptop to watch. As many of you know autogk is no longer supported and it wont wven work with newer divx. Ive been trying staxrip but its in early development and it seems to have sharp learning curve. Im interested in learning to convert to the x264 codec but I am confused as to what player plays these files. I think AVC is very interesting and I would like to know what is the "de facto standard" for encoding and playback of these h.264 files.
Quicktime plays h.264 formats and there are other players now that are supporting the codec/ format. What format are you looking to convert to h.264? is it a DVD, AVI file etc?
