As i read some of the peoples problems that are the same as mine, i cant seem to figure out how it can help me. my situation is that i have some old tapes and i can put them onto my hard drive through my avermedia pcmcia card. when i try to make a movie, it just too big of a file and i cant find anything on my nero program that says compress like everyone is saying. so i tried to find the files on dvd shrink and i cant find them there. i am using mpeg2. is there something im doing wrong, or what should i do so i can make my tapes fit? thanks
Before you can use dvd shrink you must fist convert your mpeg-2 files into dvd files (VOB, BUP ect) do a search on dvd encoders. Once you have have converted them you should be able to open the files with dvd shrnk, compress them onto you hard drive and then burn them with nero.
ok so if i just transfer it over as a dvd file from the vcr it should pick up in dvd shrink? would i still be able to customize the menu and chapters in nero?
The mpeg2 is your compression. That is the compression of the anolog source and depending on what parameters you've chosen for the mpeg2 is what will determine the size. Once you have the mpeg stream on computer then you run that thru the dvd creating s/w to enable burning to dvd disc. Now before burning you will have to make sure the dvd structure you've created will fit on a single disc. The s/w you use should guide you thru this process. If not, then run the dvd structure thru dvd shrink before burning.
