I switched out my stock cpu cooler for a Freezer 64 Pro from Arctic Cooling. my computer reads the message cpu fan has failed your computer will shut down yadda yadda. but when I look in my case the fan is spinning. i cant figure it out. please help. if you need specs please ask.
It may not be spinning fast enough. Look in your BIOS at the fan speed and see what it says, at full speed the cooler should be 2500rpm or so, unless the fan is automatically speed controlled, in which case you shouldn't see that error in the first place.
the old fan was auto control and its an hp computer so not all of the bios settings are there. the new fan says somthing about PWM fan control and i dont know what that means
Yes, the Freezer 7 Pro is controlled by Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) not voltage adjustment like older adjustable fans. If your motherboard isn't compatible with this (has a 3 pin CPU power connector not 4), you ought to turn the auto fan speed control off or you could get heat issues, or damage the fan.
