It sounds to me like you have to open the ports on the router in order to download. Go to like portforward.com for more information or wait for another response.
OK, Run hijack this again, and put a tick in these boxes and tell it to fix. []O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stratas] lockx.exe []O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [stratas] lockx.exe []O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [stratas] lockx.exe Open task manager (ctrl-alt-delete) or right click on task bar and click taskmanager, look under processes and see if you can see lockx.exe. Highlight it and click end task. Make sure you are showing hidden files and search for lockx and delete any results it finds. Restart and give it another go. If that doesnt work then download the usual suspects and do full scans on your system. Spybot S&D Ad-aware Ccleaner AVG or anti-vir Hope this helps. Side-note, check you norton internet security settings for your firewall and make sure the apps arent blocked, but lockx is definately a worm variant and shouldnt be there.
I'm not sure if I read about it in here or not, but I was reading somewhere that the [bold]"WinMX"[/bold] people were currently being sued by the Big Shitz. That may be true, because I can no longer connect to any of the WinMX hubs. I've used the program for a long-long-long time with superb results, but even after an uninstall, and new Install, WinMX will no longer connect to anything. (Guess I'll have to check the software section here for an alternative download). Pity though ..... WinMX was really easy to use. [sigh]
It is still possible, but a patch is needed. And seeing how everyone thinks it is totally unusable not as many people are on.. -Mike
Thank you kindly! for that info, Mik3h !!! (Ummm....) I'll do a search of course, but I guess the obvious question is....where might I find the patch? The reason I've always like WinMX so much, is that since I only have a dial-up connection, (uggh!) I would always run Winamp on the side to preview the first little bit of the .mp3 tune I was downloading to see if it was what I was looking for. (I wouldn't have to wait for the whole song to download only to find it was a different version to that which I was looking for, or realize it was encoded really poorly.) Thanks again !!
http://compnetworking.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.winmxgroup.com/ The new versions of the WinMX toys&tools - http://www.winmxworld.com/goodies/fixed_goodies.html Enjoy -Mike ps. I know how you mean! When I had dial-up I had to wait like 25 minutes for an MP3, and oh how it was annoying when it was either the wrong song, encoded poorly, or just another fake!
[bold]Mike:[/bold] Thank you so much !!!! I've just downloaded several patches from the second link you gave, but the patchfile (version 1.9, from the first link you gave) looks a bit more promising, or at least a little bit simpler. Either way, I will try to patch WinMX!! I'm getting ready for work right now, plus DVD-Shrink is kicking up a storm in the backround as I type this, [bold]plus[/bold] I'm online as well, so it's not a good idea to try installing the patch right now, BUT.... I'll try it out first thing after I get home tonight. But I just wanted to say "Thank You" first before I head out the door! If this version 1.9 patch works, I will recommend it to the A/D software section in case they may want to include it with their WinMX download. See you soon, Mike! (And I like your first name too). -- Mike, (aka) A_Klingon --
Np Mike Thats a good idea adding it to the aD softare section, hopefully we can get back more communitys and more users meaning more files. Hopefully WinMX can be revived -Mike
I hope so too! Mike, the patch worked [bold]perfectly![/bold] It couldn't have been easier! POOF! Instant installation, instant connection! I've gotten a few songs this morning already. It's really good to be able to use my (personal) file-sharing-application-of-choice again. I had missed it. I've just asked the admins to consider including the patch in our software secton, "P2P Applications" (page 3). You never know, with the creeps over at the RIAA, they might get their underwear all-bunched up or something if folks start using other hubs. (Like, I give a s--t or something; [bold]I'm[/bold] using it anyway!). Oh yeah - I used the simple patch Install-1.9.exe, referenced in your first link. (I [bold]did[/bold] run three of the other patches from your second link, but they didn't appear to do anthing, so I just took 'em off). The Install-1.9.exe patch/installer works just fine by itself. MANY THANKS for a great discovery Mike, and for sharing it with us !!! -- A_Klingon --
