Help! Error on converting to VCD format

    Hi,
    I am unable to convert certain XviD/DivX movies to
    VCD because the original AVI file has some errors like it freezes or gets stuck at certain places.
    Now I have tried TMPGEnc and MainConcept MPEG encoder but the problem is the same, the encoding stops on the error location.
    Is there any other software that can just encode irrespective of the error?
    Also, can we encode from the middle of the film, i.e, encode till the error and then encode again after the error portion?
    Please Help!
