    Hi all,

I had a couple of avi files which i wanted to burn into a DVD - with menus. I also had a slideshow of maybe 100 pictures which i am planning to put in the same DVD as a gift to a friend.

I first started to convert the avi file #1 into an mpg2 format but it was converted to a 4.3GB file using TMpgenc

How did i manage to do that? Can anyone help?

I hear you can burn directly from avi to mpg 2 format without some decoding done via NeroVision. Is that true? Would that be ideal? What do i lose?

Sorry for all the trouble. Thanks so much.

Depending on how long the slideshow was, 4.3GB doesnt seem horribly unreasonable :) DVDs do use massively high bitrates :)

Actually i hadn't even burnt the slideshow or the other avi files yet.

It was the first Avi file that i burnt which was originally at 130 odd mb which somehow turned out to be 4.3?gigs after conversion to mpg2. That way i cannot fit the other avis into my one disc.

    I probably did something wrong?

I haven't burnt the slideshow or the other files yet.

All i did was burn one AVI file (22 minutes) which was 130mb but somehow it came up to 4.3Gigs...I am wondering whether this is the case. If it is, then how do others manage to fit in 2 hours of video in a 4.7 disc.

I am not sure why, but some AVI files grow allot when
recoded. I have burned AVI direct to DVD with Nero
but ran into one that was 600 mb that would not fit
on a DVD5. I converted it to a mpg2 and it ended up
at 3650mb. I think there are allot of different AVI
    codex
