I need a new burner and I need to get it right this time after all 3rd time is a charm right? here's the story. I heard Lite-On was good so I my 1st burner was a Lite-on 8XX and it couldn't burn a - disc to save its life (50 pack of coasters), so I sold that one and got the new Lite-on that came out thinking Lite-on fixed the problem my 2nd burner was a SOHW-1633s, boy was I wrong this thing couldn't burn a - disc unless it was a Taiyo-Yuden and it would only burn those 95% of the time, oh and the dual-layer feature was a POS too all it did was make EXPENSIVE "coasters" if your wondering, I would restart my computer, shut down ALL programs even the screen saver before any burning started. and the only media I would use was Taiyo-Yuden or Ritek and I would always burn at 4x Anyways after doing my research I have narrowed my new burner to a Plextor 716A or BENQ DW-1640 can I go wrong with either one of these? what should I expect to pay and where at? pricewatch wasn't much help..... last but not least any help would be GREAT, Thanks.
Try www.newegg.com Their inventory varies so you may have to be patient to get exactly what you want. The items on sale can vary daily sometimes, so have to check often, especially prior to a holiday. Their prices are great, shipping is fast at reasonable price, and they have a return policy as good as any internet merchant. Drives offered can be OEM bare drives, or full retail version if you want to pay more.
I have the Plextor 716 that outperforms my Nec ,LG, and my short lived Benq. I paid $149.00 for it at Zip Zoom Fly a year ago on sale. Right now I,m waiting for the after Christmas returns at Circuit City to buy another one only the 740. I,ve seen a lot of them on eBay going for $80 to $100.00. Happy Holidays
