Ok, so I just bought this 250 GB hard drive, and I mounted it into an external case. My laptop recognized it and everything was great. I began to transfer files to it, and was really quite pleased with how smooth everything was going. Then I accidently knocked out the power cord. Now, whenever I try to start up my external hard drive, it makes a few odd clucking noises for a bit, goes dead silent, and the computer doesn't recognize it. When I go into disk managment, it is no longer visible! I am not concerned about any lost files, but is there a way to get the hard drive back up and running? Thanks!

Just curious: the hard drive itself wouldn't be damaged would it? It's not like I dropped it or a power surge occured, I just knocked out the power cord while it was running.

Remember the platters are glass discs and quite fragile

I am totally sure that I did not shatter anything. It was working fine initially until I knocked the power cord out of the wall, and it has not moved from that position. What I mean by odd noises is when I turn it on, the drive spins and then goes 'click', spins, 'click's, etc, for a while, and finally stops spinning.

cant be try to format his new hard drive, because the clicking noise might be comming from a file that didnt transfer all the way and needs ot be transfered and the clicking noise might be comming from that. just something to try before trying to return it.
