I softmodded my XBox using Splinter Cell's saved game exploit. I then wanted to install a bigger hard drive. I did everything the way the tutorial stated, but I could not change the bios on the XBox so it would accept my new hard drive. I know the hard drive is comfigured because it worked on my brother's XBox. I am using a V6 XBox if that helps. Plus the hard drive is a Samsung and is 160GB. Right now my orignal 8GB Hard Drive is showing errors and will not load. Can anyone tell me how I can restore it from my PC without having to use Flash or FTP? If I can at least restore the original Hard Drive, I can attempt to start over from scratch with my soft mod and then go from there. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Xbox HDM has a option for that I believe. You plug the xbox HDD into your PC(remove your PC HDD first). You boot it from a CD. Get the program and read the directions, if you need more info post back. Post back and tell me how it goes.
Okay. I got my original Xbox hard drive working again and have soft modded it using the Splinter Cell Save Game Exploit. Everything works fine. My next problem pertains to Hard Drive Swapping. I have set up a Samsung 160GB Hard Drive using Xbox HDM. I know that the hard drive set up correctly because it works in my brother's soft modded box. (He does NOT have modchip installed). When I install the 160GB Hard Drive into MY Xbox, I get error 9. Is there something that I am doing wrong here? My brother believes it has something to do with the bios. My brother also has a 160GB Hard Drive and when he installed it into my XBox, he got the same error... but it works fine in his XBox. When I check the security settings on my XBox, and go to BIOS Version, this is what I see: (256)Retail 5835.01 I believe I am using a Version 6 XBox. If you need any other info, please let me know. If you know how to do a hard drive swap and make it work, please let me know. I appreciate all the help I can get at this point. Thanks in advance.
Error 8-9 Your Xbox motherboard is having trouble communicating with the Hard Drive. Check cables, this is probably due to an ATA controller on the motherboard and not due to the hard drive itself. (my personal experience, try replacing the hard drive and see how it goes) My recommendation for most is to replace the Motherboard and Hard drive as a pair. --------------------------------------------------------- I'll have to look into this alittle more, cause i've never come accross this problem. Try this, install it on your brothers again but this time use YOUR cables, and not his. (troubleshooting)
I got it to work now. The problem was the when my brother did mine, he used HIS EEProm. I went back and used xbhdm again and this time I used my EEProm. When I hooked the 160GB drive up, it worked fine. Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.
